No idea what the pill smelled like or how much was in those, but an actual spray has done well for me to keep gnats and mosquitos away from my air conditioner port in my window. The smell is very strong.

Cinnamon oil or eucalyptus oil helps keep mosquitoes away 😊

Go to a health food store and buy different essential oils . make a water / and essential oils recipe in a spray bottle . Spray your body and clothes and air . I use mint oils and rosemary , orange oil , tea tree oil , eucalyptus oil , clove oils , and lime sometimes too . Also citronella , and neem oil can be effective . Try different ones that you like the smell of .

I use a lot of peppermint oil for pain management and cognitive stimulation everyday down here in good ole Northern Alabama. Just before I clicked on this video a skeeter latched on to my hand and vampired a bunch of blood from it while I was trying to eat. Trust me this stuff doesn't work. A naturopathic doctor told me about 10 years ago a nurse they took to Africa avoided malaria from mosquito bites because she used a mixture of: mint, eucalyptic, an oreganol oils. The dude's wife died and he was in a coma from the mosquito bites. So crazy ole me mixed those oils together last summer. Dem skeeters stole my blood and deposited it in a blood bank. None of this stuff works. If they gona gitcha they gona gitcha. Someone suggested I should have used spearmint instead of peppermint in the mix. I ain't wasting no mo money.🤔

I used it for mosquitos and it works, but not the brand that you used. I used 100% all natural essential oil. I rub it on my skin and I don’t get bit. You should also try eucalyptus and tea tree oil as well.

Those supplements are mostly soy bean oil and that's why it didn't work. Get a PURE essential oil and try again. It's not expensive. You can get it at a natural food store, or anywhere online. Just a couple drops go a long way because it's so concentrated.

We mix the actual oil with water and we spray it around our home and around our property and it does work for us! BUT cutting open the top of a pill that's designed to be dissolved in the human body, I don't think you'd get the same effect.

Peppermint oil does not repel them from swarming. But Peppermint oil DOES seem to stop critters from landing and biting. Never bitten even once when rub it on diluted with a carrier oil. 8 weeks zero bites. But yesterday walked onto back lawn w/o peppermint oil and got bitten at the left nape of my neck. Nasty infected whelp ensued. Should have put on peppermint or other repelling oil as usual despite thinking was just placing a transplanted container along border and then coming back in. Not fast enough. It go me :( Organic natural turpentine [not the poisonous synthetic] diluted 1tbs to 20+ oz of water in squirt bottle sprayed on clothes works well short term, unless allergic to mints etc. Also works much much smaller dose added to carrier oil and applied to skin. 30-min to 2hrs max value. Anecdotal evidence suggests is not safe, though had been used over 100 years in USA. On slaves :p

The peppermint oil will repel rodents, however. Rid my attic of fruit rats when we could not find how they were getting in. Gone over 2 years now.

Peppermint essential oil works against ants really good. Never tried it against mosquitos or gnats. I make a homemade bug spray with various essential oils and witch hazel and it works amazingly.

Garlic and extra vitamin B keeps me more protected than people around me that have no Deet or other chemical pest sprays. I make a few home remedies that work good for keeping the flying pests away. I make salve out of coco nut oil, olive oil, bees wax, citronella and tea tree essential oil that does a good job. I also make my own beef tallow candles in jars, that have citronella and tea tree oil in them that I burn to keep mosquitoes and gnats away.

Avon skin so soft used to work extremely well, used to have it shipped out when working overseas, problem is they are meant to have changed the ingredients recently so probably another decent product destroyed!

Peppermint oil isn't a bit helpful on gnats and mosquitoes, unfortunately. It is great for getting rid of ants though. We had very persistent ants up here (CT) so I put some peppermint oil (the kind used for cooking, McCormick brand, I believe) where they had been coming in and along the path they had taken. Got rid of them within a day and they didn't return for quite a while. Just did the same thing again when they did and it got rid of them for good. YMMV, but it was pretty efficient for us.

I have done similar testing here in Illinois. Results: Heavy mosquitos are not sufficiently deterred by peppermint oil. You need DEET.
Question: Why didn't you put the oil on your skin? (keeping away from eyes, of course.)

Blood type – Depending on the type of blood you have, you secrete different scents. Studies have shown that mosquitoes are most attracted to Type O blood and least attracted to Type A. Lactic acid – Lactic acid is emitted through your skin when you are active or eating certain foods. Deep Woods Off! works fine for me.

Mosquito plants work good for gnats. I use them on the porch. Other than that the only thing that keeps them all away in the woods is a thermacell. I tried everything because I worked in the woods all the time and gnats would kick my butt. Off didn't even work. Mosquito plants all over the porch and thermacell in the woods. If you run out of propane in the thermacell, crank a 4 wheeler and lay the tab on the exhaust. It works

try rubbing yourself with ferns, that's what i use to do when camping and it seemed to help. the other problem that is hard to overcome is the gnats and mosquitoes are attracted to the carbon monoxide we exhale.

Thanks MD for taking one for the team. When I had horses Id always had a mixture of DEET and AVON SKIN SO SOFT. Id spray the horses then my shirt and hat. Worked good for an hour or two. My wife likes when I use Dr. Bronner's Peppermint soap in the shower tho, shes on me like a gnat.

Few of the on-line "concoctions" ever worked for us. We had a tenacious little pest that emerged in the spring time just when the ground dried out enough to begin tilling. These critters are so bad there is a season named after them in New Hampshire. We called it " black fly season. " Fortunately, their time is short, about two to thee weeks and they disappear until next year, but they leave you with a bite that I can only equate to a skeeter bite on steroids. We tried the old standby of AVON body oil, I think it was called "skin so soft" but my memory may have failed me on that? The only way it worked was to put so much on your skin the bugs would drown in it when they landed to bite. Liquid VICKS vapor rub intended for the vaporizer (is it still made?) was a little better but NOT recommended to put on the skin of young children. Smoking a cigar while tilling ground did help around your head. Here in the Philippines where I now live, we avoid the mosquitoes at all cost. There is still pockets of malaria in some areas and the new and very dangerous threat of dengue fever. Protective head-nets and at times a bit of chemical repellent at the joints of your clothing is the way to go when on a jungle trek or at night in an area where you know you should take precautions. It is a thing of beauty to see bats at work, they are definitely your friend.
