in my humble opinion the homestuck cast always read a wiggas/niggaboos to me because of the way they used AAVE and talked about the black famous people they had in the comic. this made homestuck 2 extremely painful for me and the trolls = black people allegory was way off base and really offensive

I heard that this video contains a metric tonne of misinformation and cites a source that may or may not be a stalker and may or may not have lied in the past. I haven't watched the video yet but I can probably definitely confirm that it will get a like. Maybe.

The weird thing about Vriska for me is my first girlfriend when I was 13 was a massive Vriska roleplayer and used her text quirk all the time, at a time when I knew zero about Homestuck. So when I finally got around to reading it years later Vriska just reminded me of that relationship and made me nostalgic.

My second girlfriend was also really into cosplaying Jade too so basically when reading the comic I have pretty strong romantic associations with two Homestuck characters. This is what it was like being a teen in the 2010s.

I spent way too much time trying to figure out how many grams of sugar were drank in this video.

Maybe you should have started from the ACTUAL basics?

Something interesting I remember abut Homestuck is the mass Hetalia fandom conversion. I was in a huge 30+ person Hetalia cosplay group from 2009-2011 and myself and two others were the ONLY ones who didn't transfer over to Homestuck when we realized "Wow. Hetalia is super racist and gross"

I think I read up to a part with those three guys in the noir setting, and one of them had a cane that was made out of a bull’s penis?? I don’t think anything in the story up to that point made any sense to me, so I sort of just dropped it. That was back during the height of its popularity, I remember seeing the trolls allllll over tumblr at the time. Was this story one of those things that only really made sense to kids?

I remember going to an anime convention the year homestuck got popular and there were SOOOO many trolls!

i finished reading homestuck avoiding any homestuck content and this was a good summary of what i missed outside the comic

This video was at large, educational and interesting. I do have one thing to add regarding the speech about people who harass and hate on transpeople, for them being what they are.
The polarizing false dicodemy of grouping people into "Good" and "Bad" groups, often stemming from a "With us or against us" mindset, rarely serves to convince anyone of them being wrong. All you do by using tactics like this is to drive those people further into their beliefs. You allow them to justify their belief because instead of making an argument against their position, you simply state that "YOU BAD! FUCK OFF!" aka, ad hominem. If you care about correcting the missunderstanding, and genuinely furthering the cause of a unified position on the topic, you should strive to attack their arguments, or reasoning, not the people themselves.
Which is for the most part, not that difficult to do. A logical examination of most anti-trans arguments quickly result in the identification of several flaws.

It's funny you said the first parts were divisive, because that's definitely my favourite part. (I'm also the same about Red Dwarf, so many people say the first season is crap but that was my favourite too.) 

I guess I like smaller-scale, lonelier-feeling, higher-concept executions over the maximalist comedic kinda way.

I'm just getting back into Homestuck.

Everything makes so much sense. I remember (AND FOUND) one of my old oc's that I was loved. Because I was a bit too young for it when it first came out, I got into it in middle school (so around 2016-2017)
When I say I was suuuuuper into it, I mean that. It's also the main reason I do art now :]

I will try to watch this video later. I've been intending to actually read Homestuck, but everything I ever hear about it fills me with dread and a visceral sense that I should not do such thing...

There was a time I only knew homestuck as "that one comic Toby Fox worked on a little". Now the more I learn about it the scarier it becomes.
