My home loan interest every month is about 1000$ should I still not pay off my mortgage quickly ?

Don’t forget, debt is paid with after tax money. Your investment rate of return isn’t as high as you think After taxes. So if you think you are beating your mortgage interest % think again.

So if my car loan is at 15% I should pay this off first? Lol I know it’s embarrassing.

Wife and I are paying down our consumer debt now. Just 2 cars. About another 9-10 months and both should be paid off. After that we plan on doubling our E fund(from 3 months to 6). Then taking all our extra money and splitting it evenly between extra money on the mortgage and a brokerage account. Doing my research this really feels like the right move for us. I’m 39 and my wife is 36, we’ve always had good incomes but been super sloppy with money. I’m annoyed I never got focused on finances earlier in life but glad I got there before it’s too late. We both have pretty solid retirement plans set up and have for our adult lives.

Jaspreet, does this still apply during this current economic climate? Right now, all student loans are not earning interest & there's been a freeze (I'm sure you're already aware of this.) So with that being said, if I have a student loan out, not earning interest, is it wise to take my money & invest it now???? Then once the loan starts earning interest again, just start paying on the loan like crazy. I want to take advantage of this time we are in. So, is this the exception????

You forgot one major point. The 11% gain is taxable while you cannot write off the 12% loan. So even if you could earn a guaranteed yield of 15%, you're probably still better off paying down the 12% loan.

I went back and forth on this for a long time. In the end, I decided to focus on paying the mortgage. I should have it paid off in 3.5 more years. I rent out my finished basement so it's making me money too.

I love this channel, but problem with the debt avalanche method (paying loans based on highest interest first) which is kinda suggested here is that statistically it doesn’t work in the “real world”. I just used Ramsey’s method to wipe out my debt and it’s INCREDIBLE how easy it is to build wealth/invest with no debt looming every month.

I used my investments to pay off debts. Of course best case scenario would of been to never be in bad debt in the first place.
