Can You Overclock a LOCKED CPU?

I hated intel for banning OC back in the day, but from today point of view, it's easy just to buy a K CPU, it's not that more expensive and than you have unlimited OC possibilities, while back in the day, to find some unlocked CPUs was almost impossible before Core i was released and overclocking it with increasing FSB was pretty complicated and it needed a lot of experiences, so I guess it's better today when you can just buy K CPU from the start.

My i5 9400f sits at 33c when idle and about 50-55 when playing watch dogs 2 or tom clancy's the division so overclocking shouldnt really be a problem considering temperatures

In windows you can change the power State to keep it locked at 100% all the time it raises temperatures but you keep your higher boosts more consistently on a lot of products especially Mobile parts

Does this work on Gigabyte motherboards?

I have both the i7 9700f and i5 9400f can't change each core speed but i can use the multiplier to raise the clock to 45 on i7 9700f and 39 on the i5 9400f giving me a lot of extra power. fun side note i overclocked the i5 9400f on a z390 motherboard and put it in a cheap h series board and it retained its 3.9ghz overclock speed. pretty cool!!!

How does intel get away with locking down their cpu?

Intel actually allows this type of overclocking themselves - You can increase the thermal limit on locked chips to 125A max in Intel Extreme Tuning utility.

what about the newly discovered microcode "red unlock mode" instructions, can they be used to alter the cpu's specification?

I'm at 4 GHz , 3.85 stable on an e5200 in a Dell motherboard by using bsel mod and then setfsb... I've been trying to get it over 4ghz for more than just a few seconds. Is it my ram holding me back? I've got 4gb ddr2
