i water my potted blueberry plants every other day with 32 oz of water in the evening , add liquid fertilizer once a week
Ответитьi don't buy the self-pollinating explaination, why? because i bought a variety that need to have 2 plants and i had them indoor,
sometime i think this is an excuse to make people buy more. the point is i pollinate my tifblue blueberry indoor and i got a good bacth of about 150 berries and these are like 3yrs old now.
anyway now i am testing to see if this is misinformation with other blueberries, because this is like the misinformation that you need 2 different type of avocado trees to pollinate, which is a lie,
as long as you have insects they will pollinate yhe tree for you even if you only have one plant
im in south australia in cold climate what do you suggest fro me and know dont ask my region
ОтветитьWould it be beneficial to add some sand to the soil to help retain water? Also what is the best way to create good drainage?
Thank you!
Dana
Is it too late to transplant blueberries in South Carolina?
ОтветитьI have a 1 year old blueberry in a pot. Winter is here and I need to know how tolerant it is, and how I can protect it.
ОтветитьGood job on the video, sir appreciate all the blueberry info. Jist started our first greenhouse project here in East Texas as well. Shout out from Diana Texas.
ОтветитьI’m in New England, so blueberry plants are dormant. I put my plant in a large pot and it is kept inside with a lot of sun. Should I still be watering it?
ОтветитьFor those beginners who want to grow blueberries in buckets:
01. Bucket 55l (15 gallon)
02. Soil from a pine forest
03. Mix the soil with pine twigs and pine bark
04. Pine bark mulch
Purchased soil is dead soil. No doubt.
Purchased fertilizer is not as good as slowly decaying pine twigs with pine bark. They gradually give the blueberries nutrients. If you really want to take care of the blueberry, it is a good idea to let pieces of pine bark stand in water for several weeks. As soon as the water "rusts", it also has a low ph, then water them. If you have blueberries in black buckets, they will heat up a lot in the sun and the roots will suffer. Either use white buckets or simply paint the black ones white or wrap them in paper or aluminum foil. One last piece of advice: the more varieties of blueberries, the more fruit you will have.
Failure is not possible with this procedure
cant one use epson salts, as it contain mainly sulphur and magnesium...
ОтветитьI'm in zone 7b where can i find those mineral tub cake farmers use? I want to plant my blueberry in there. I have top hat and sweetheart blueberry in terracotta. The SH grew so fast in the first summer
ОтветитьThank you for the tips!
Trying with 3 plants this year in southern hemisphere
And also get rid off the grass since the shallow roots off the blueberries, cannot compete with grass for nutrients.
ОтветитьOn required acidity in soil, I am planning to plant just two bushes of blueberries in a normal soil with ph of 7 and also wish to put in other plants that do not relish acidity. Would it work to just treat (acidify) only the areas in which I plant the blueberries, for example apply vinegar to a diameter and depth of 30cm? Does that make sense to an expert?
ОтветитьI was always told Blueberries do best, thrive best, when planting 2 or more varieties, near each other. The have better fruiting and more prolific fruiting
ОтветитьHi my question what ussed now ferylizer
ОтветитьWe have wild blueberry plants on our property… hat can I do to promote bigger and more blueberries on them?
ОтветитьThanks! In my state, we have zones between 5 and 10. Quite a few, but Arizona State University in Phoenix does publish information for the Phoenix area.
ОтветитьMy experience is quite different. I have only grown blueberries in pots. and i water once a week. It took a lot of failed blueberries to work out what works for me. But what ended up working is quite different. I think the soil makeup is the biggest difference. Need soil that holds moisture well, but drains really well.
ОтветитьWhat time of the year is best to plant blueberries?
Ответить12ml of white vinegar per 1.25L bottle of water seems to be a good ph for my plant. It was half dead when I got it at the start of fruit season, the vinegar water and a nice fabric pot helped it recover and catch up for it's first fruiting.
ОтветитьLoved the video. Loads of information without all the off topic talk. Thanks I learned a lot
ОтветитьWe are in East Texas and have had an early abundance of blueberries on our potted blueberry bushes; however, these same plants' leaves are now brown. The stocks still bend, so they are not all dead. We have watered diligently. As you know our heat has been in excess of 100 degrees. Is there any hope for our blueberry plants, in your opinion?
ОтветитьWhat about sun exposure? I’ve had a plant that’s been pretty much dwarfed all season and I cannot figure out what I’m doing incorrectly.
ОтветитьI'm about to get my first bush end of the month.
Thanks for the tips!
I'm from Ukraine and I didn't make any mistakes in the video.
ОтветитьWould you suggest digging up a bush that is not producing and not growing that well and replanting it in the same spot (with the proper soil and everything, of course)?
ОтветитьThank you for the useful video.
ОтветитьI’m in Connecticut and have 6 plants of different varieties. All of them have produced very well this year but have become very leggy. Tall and falling over and heavy with fruit. When and how should I trim?
ОтветитьWhen you buy blueberry bushes in the pot already, how long will it take to harvest blueberries?
ОтветитьI do thank you. As I have bought my first Blueberry bush.
ОтветитьSounds like I need to figure out how to research the fruiting time period of each blueberry plant. I have 2 pink lemonade blueberries and maybe 6 other random varieties.
ОтветитьAlso consult with a blueberry pollination chart. The chart will suggest the variety that matches your choice
ОтветитьI am about worn-out with blueberries. They are in 5 gallon pots. The soil is always wet moist in black drain pot on Terrance. I am in Kentucky. A lot site jeep tell you to buy theses products. Ihave so many. Will Canadian peat moss work for Kentucky?
ОтветитьThe varieties I bought are suited for our zone and I verified that they are suitable for cross pollination. My favorites are the Premier and the Brightwell for flavor and size. The blossoms appear in mid to late February so I usually fertilize about that time as well. Now that the harvest is over I am thinking about pruning but am running into conflicting information about when to do it. I over-pruned the first year or 2 and have just left them alone for 3 years. They are 5 years old now, the canes are about 3/8" thick and about 4' tall due to pruning mistakes and lack of care while recovering from open heart surgery with complications. Trying to educate myself more about pruning. 😎👍🏻
ОтветитьHere in Plano, Texas, the unrelenting heat and drought conditions have claimed 5 of my in-ground blueberry bushes. I just couldn't keep enough water on them. 3 inches of mulch helped but the 4 that remain are in 15 gallon pots, which are now shaded from the afternoon sun. They are 5 years old. We just had the biggest harvest so far, and the grandkids enjoyed picking and eating them. 😎👍🏻
ОтветитьEver thought of using a automatic drip system?
ОтветитьHOW MUCH LIGHT ,, SUN DO THEY NEED❓️❓️❓️
ОтветитьBlueberry soil mixture and how long do i need it to sit before i plant them by the way you have the best video on blueberries
ОтветитьIn UK. I've only planted one from a 3 inch pot last year. I'm excited to have berries this year. I urinate on it every couple of weeks or so. Seems to work. After last years drought, we've had intermittent rain this year. I plant mainly shrubs, trees and wildflowers on local authority bits of land with their blessing (and the cops) as it was being abused by dumpers and car parkers. Clearly I can't do extensive irrigation, but I reckon I'll be able to propagate a few blueberries, which are exotic to me, thanks to your lesson.
ОтветитьNice video. You forgot one of the biggest mistakes: planting them too close to each other!
People see those little plants and don’t envision how big the plants will be when mature. Here in Wisconsin, I advise people to plant at least 4 feet apart and preferably 5-6 feet apart. If multiple rows, the rows should be farther apart, especially if you need to allow for equipment access.
Easy to grow, with seven ways to screw them up?
ОтветитьGood video. I wish you had made some comments about lighting needs as well. I know most blueberries prefer full sun but just curious of success in shaded areas also.
ОтветитьHello, I think a wild blueberry bush,is there a way,(I'm in texas) is there a way for me to take a stem from the wild bush and grow my own bush from iit?
ОтветитьThank you for your clear guidance on blueberry growing. Also your pronunciation is excellent for non Americans.
ОтветитьI grow a lot of blueberry bushes in containers quite successfully. I had 55 at one point. I have a micro bubbler going to each one and they are watered regularly. If they need more I’ve got it set up to tell Siri to water them. “Hey Siri, turn on the berries.” will water them for a minute or whatever I have it set to. I grow them in peat moss, perlite, soil acidified fertilizer and some gypsum. My bushes grow very fast. I’m getting lots of blueberries this year.
ОтветитьI have a little blueberry bush that I stuck in the ground as a little stick. last Jan..I was so excited to see it grow some leaves..its on a drip system, do you think its enough water, also can you add coffee grounds to make it more acidic?
ОтветитьI'm planning on planting blueberries in a garden that has exactly the wrong type of soil, unfortunately: limey clay with a high pH and very poor drainage. However, I think/hope I can avoid the soil issue by planting in a raised bed, using acidic materials like quartz sand and pebbles, low-pH gardening soil, pine needles and bark. As a last resort I can always fall back on chemical acidifiers like aluminium sulphate, but I would prefer a more natural solution if feasible.
While the climate isn't ideal either (the summers are prone to dry spells), hopefully by planting in a fairly damp and shady corner of the garden I can reduce the need for regular watering, at least once the plants are reasonably established.
I realise that these plants won't be generating optimal yields, but that's not really my aim to begin with. If they can supply a few handfuls of free berries every year I'll be more than satisfied. It's more about proving that I could than asking if I should, I guess.
My dog eats mine when he thinks I'm not looking 🤔
ОтветитьI miss Michigan blueberries, too!! We live in the Black Hills, SD. Blueberries just don't seem to do well for us so we are trying honeyberries and serviceberries. I have 4 Blueberries that we planted 2 yrs ago and they haven't done much. I'll try your tips!
