Not always new, but I never knew how old it was until its battery completely flatlined.

I agree with a lot of the comments here in that I too prefer a "real" computer, because I find myself doing a bit more than the average web browsing individual.  However there's no argument that eventually these chromebooks will become more robust as the demand for said robustness increases (and it will as they gain popularity).  At present, I think their chief benefit (and this is where Microsoft should be shaking in their boots) is they're a cost-effective alternative for schools and businesses that don't have high-end requirements for computers.  As an IT professional, one of the BIGGEST headaches is setting up a windows environment.  Its time consuming and has costly equipment (servers, racks, cooling systems, etc.).  You have to be cautious about rolling out updates as it may break the Windows OS image you've pushed out to all the computers on the network.  The list goes on.

Google is essentially saying: "Buy these cheap computers that are essentially dumb terminals (can hardly do anything without an internet connection) and your "servers" will be in our cloud.  So you can manage your group policies and such through our admin console and you don't have to worry about buying or setting up your servers.

This is where businesses and government agencies (education, etc.) get dollar signs in their eyes because they see how much money and time this will save them.  And this is where Google is gaining a foothold and eating away at the huge Microsoft pie we all thought no one else would ever get their fingers into (Apple always settled for a little "elitist sliver" of said pie).

Microsoft is, of course, trying to emulate this but as usual they're a bit late to the game (they don't even have a cloud print feature like google does as of this post).

It's all going to come down to which is most popular.  Whoever is, will ultimately be the forerunner for computers.  Microsoft has been doing this for years, as they've always been more popular than Apple (yeah scream at me if you want, Apple fanboys, but the majority rules).

If things continue as they are, Google will become the new industry leader.

Heck.... as i say that, their stock is worth WAY more than microsoft or apple.  They may already be there.

We use this in class and like when we first use it right at the bat everyone hated it , theres no right click or left click button, u have to tap it twice with two fingers, its hard to use, too much stuff u need to do and its really small. So if ur going to buy this, buy it but not for entertaiment actually dont use this as a home laptop, cause it just sucks buy it for school stuffs cause it easily save documents in drive

I have fallen in love with my Samsung Chromebook! It's completely replaced my Windows laptop. I'm never going back to Windows. All those stupid "restart your computer for updates" notifications, crashing for no reason, worrying about defragmenting my hard drive because my laptop would get slower and slower with each passing month. Doing those "full system scans" that took 15 hours. Having to buy a cooling pad because it would overheat constantly. Oh and of course Microsoft Word or any other program would always crashed in the middle of an important project, or I'd lose an important USB drive.

^ Yeah, Google Drive, and the Chromebook, have saved me from all of that. I'm currently writing a book in Google Docs, and thanks to my Chromebook I can just flip open the lid and instantly start writing without having to wait for anything to load. And in case anyone's wondering, yes, Google has improved their offline capabilities by a long stretch. Also, just as an off-topic note: I can't believe how much something as simple as a dedicated search key could enhance my web browsing experience.

Now, I still use the public Macs at my university to edit and color my artwork in Photoshop, but that's only because cloud-based alternatives like Pixlr aren't nearly as good as Photoshop yet. Maybe they'll catch up, though. (And also, Photoshop only accounts for about 5% of what I use computers for, so I shall never ditch Chrome OS)

Thank you, Google! My Chromebook has changed my life. :D

i'm wondering this is a new os and yet they already have virus protection? come on, this is not famous yet, and will be less targeted by viruses. or maybe it is made on the backbone of an android, which is very famous for its virus vulnerabilities.
