Note: You have now learnt that LEDs emit light by the recombination of electrons and holes in them. You have probably seen a single LED emitting radiation of different colors or switching colors. The bandgap (the depletion region) in such LED is not changed, but incoming electrons come with different magnitudes of energy provided by varying potential difference. Electrons carrying more energy emit photons of higher frequency (e.g. blue), and electrons carrying low energy emit photons of lower frequency (e.g. red). It is the difference between the energy the electrons carry and the energy of the valence electrons.

Led can't emmit infra- red &ultraviolet rays. Source of infrared are too hot like sun ,stars ,lava .and led does not produce heat
