Magic And Loss is a bit like Berlin. The music is great (and the production here is truly superb) but you have to cope with the lyrics which define grief even too well

A few months after my mother died, I saw a review of this album, featuring the lyrics of this song. I bought it just for the promise of "weirdness." Instead I got so much healing. I tend to recommend this album for anyone in mourning.

Dad came to visit me in San Anselmo I don’t know if I was expecting him I think I was expecting him but he handed me a tape he made me a tape that’s what he used to do. My dad was a heavy influencer of music for me except when I forged my own way If it wasn’t for him play music so loud growing up and it was about music and beer and women and I don’t think I would be here right now. But he started out the tape with this song. I can’t remember any other song on that tape right now and I’m trying to whatever year this came out that’s when he dropped this on me so I would start naming off songs right now but nobody cares I know it started with this. Bacon without ice cream this was a weird song for me I appreciate the contribution but for me it wasn’t my style I never Embraced it and I never jammed it I’m trying to think of other lyrics it was just not my music. My dad has me locked down in some very not nice stuff and his narrative is not changing. I wish he was happy and proud of me. But in order to do this I was carry out every wish. I got some good music from dad they’re telling a story in his stories now are not Real there is some key to my freedom and going back and taking inventory. What else am I gonna do? This is the sound of a man wrestling with his own grief. The fact that somebody who lived so nihilistically stopped and reconsidered things due to the deaths of two friend makes this song so hard hitting.

New York was a fantastic album full of absolute gems, a classic but this album even surpasses that, it's magnificent. This is the very best offering from Lou Reed.

The song is made me think about my dad since 1995. I still miss you everyday.
