I started creating music again over the past few months and had a wild idea to try shifting modes rather than keys/tonal centres, to produce an increasing sense of intense emotions. Starting with E myxolidian, moving to E Dorian then eventually ending in E (don’t hate me for trying…) Locrian. Think I need to use that “ambiguous” chords in between idea from early on in this video. Cheers for the idea. Looking forward to an amazing year of content on your channel, dude.

Everything is good but the last demo, scale per chord was the best. I think you've probably disclosed some secrets there from some of the great fusion players, like Holdsworth, et al. Thanks for the excellent stuff.

Modes are actually a really simple concept but really hard to explain to someone who doesn't understand. I'll never forget the moment my brain clicked. It was like, WOW.. that's it? Not that modes aren't awesome, just nowhere as complicated as I thought.

But a simple way to analyze this is using the harmonic minor.


On the first part ( dorian)
It's just the g major scale
Or E Minor scale.

Then E harmonic minor.

Same as hotel California
Is on b harmonic minor! ❤

For doing modal chord progresions it's a difrent theory.
