Japanese Fighter Jets Landing In Philippines (July. 02, 2024)


Tuesday saw the first Japanese fighter jets land in the Philippines as defense cooperation between the two countries intensifies. The two F-15 aircraft from the Japan Air Self-Defense Force touched down at Clark Air Base, which is located north of Metro Manila. After the United States and Australia, the Philippines is the only other nation to which Japan has sent fighter jets. The air force exchange program, which ends on Sunday, may make it more difficult for Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to forge ties with China, a crucial commercial partner that Manila shares territorial claims with in the South China Sea. Washington and Manila have decided to construct further joint training sites on Philippine territory in the interim. The bunkers will be able to hold supplies of ammunition, gasoline, and medical equipment, all of which may be extremely important in the event of a crisis in Taiwan or the South China Sea.
