Besides celebrities, real rich people could care less about Birkins. In fact, they are considered tacky and mainly for the nouveaux rich to impress each other. In sex and the city, there is an episode where Carrie has a green Birkin and SJP admitted it was fake.

I’m little bit confused about the little tiny locks that are on the front of all these purses ? it seems that either they are just for decoration or they actually have some functionality in which case you would have to carry around a tiny little key with you might easily be lost ??? !
What kind of features would you like on a purse that you might be willing to pay two or $300 for?
It seems to me that it should be bulletproof against small arms fire, be extremely durable, have an inside battery that you can easily connect to your phone, when not in use, be reasonably attractive, but not ostentatiously so, have lots of interior pockets for organization purposes, I have a fingerprint lock or a lock that is connected to a ring that the user wears, It should also be expandable so that if you suddenly find yourself needing to carry a somewhat greater amount of crap than you normally carry, the bag will be able to accommodate that…
I’ve watched several of these Birkin videos on the bags so far and it’s curious that none of these videos address any of these issues !

Sorry, they are unattractive and bulky. It's a sad validation for the insecure.

The style, the lock the work, the craft, the use of material, I respect all that. But the exclusivity and price is ridiculous. People who keep the poor poor in order to buy these bags are more ridiculous.

I love the irony in that this bag is inspired by Jane Birkin. Yet, Jane Birkin always carried around a large wicker basket. She is the icon of effortless chic. It takes a LOT of effort to aquire a Hermes Birkin or Kelly. Too much effort. I like 'effortless' chic, thank you!

In the early 80’s my parents were off to Europe & asked if I wanted anything. Birkin I said. Dumb & twenty, my mom laughed. I got perfume instead. Nowadays they’ve been cheapened by the likes of Kim/Kylie & every Rapper out there. Thanks but no thanks. Shame

I'm sorry but I'm sure I'm not the only person who thinks that Hermes bags are ugly or at least not that great looking. It only proves people are vain period.

My dream Birkin or Kelly is a very very used one. They look better beat up. The pristine ones you see parading down the street with scarves, twillys and funny horses hanging off them are ridiculous and frankly, childish.

The ridiculous price is more about exclusivity. The rich want some things all to themselves.

Luxury isn't worth it, you're paying for the name and status not just the leather and craftsmanship. I get any luxury goods from TK Maxx if I need things anyway, I wouldn't specifically buy things to just show off. No one is interested in the label you carry that's just in a rich persons head that people care.
