At the beginning of my singing journey I was kind of the chest puller but with a very strong head voice/falsetto (that was always my one advantage that i had easy access to my upper range)
I could sing confidently in both but could never connect them.
It was either one or the other, no in between
Hello, great video! Love the content.
I feel like I’m a mix of all of these. I can be loud, but I also go into my falsetto like the voice cracker. I can belt, but there’s a point where I can’t sing higher. I can transition from chest to head to falsetto well too.
So basically, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
I want to sing higher notes in my chest/mixed voice, but I just can’t figure out how to expand my range. Anyone have any ideas?
You are an AMAZING teacher!! I am a blender. Thanks to this video now i know. ❤😊
ОтветитьI am become The Flipper, the destroyer of mixed voice
ОтветитьYou're amazingg! So glad to have found yout video, Lisa!
ОтветитьI’m definitely a flipper.
ОтветитьI’m a blender
ОтветитьWhat is we are more than one voice?
ОтветитьYou kind of look like an actress, Gwyneth poutro not sure that's how you say the name. Your beautiful
ОтветитьI've been a chest puller for a long time. A few years ago, I started working on relaxing on the higher notes and it has really helped. While still not a master blender (sounds like an appliance) I've improved to where my tone at least sounds consistent throughout my range. Always a work in progress!
ОтветитьI am definitely a flipper! I’ve always struggled with belting and putting power behind my notes in a way that’s on key, though! I think part of it came from a lack of confidence. These are great tips and instructions! So glad that I found this! Thank you! 💙
ОтветитьAny fliper one other than me
ОтветитьI had to relearn how to make sound because every single time I used my voice, my vocal chords were basically grinding so hard that I would lose my voice for a full day if I spoke longer than 30 minutes.
As I was relearning how to use my voice I quickly noticed that it was super unstable and cracked a lot with little to no resonance. Basically my vocal chords were either on or off; there was no such thing as partial closure. Either my vocal folds were smacking together so hard that it hurt or they wouldn't produce any sound.
This was a huge source of embarrassment and presented a mental roadblock, not just a physical one. The only way I could get any partial closure was to use a very light and breathy falsetto/head voice that had a range of roughly 2 semitones. This hurt(mostly emotionally) a lot and took months to make any progress.
Eventually I learned how to expand that range and get more control over how closed my vocal chords could get by practicing the same thing of that weird falsetto/head voice thing.
I now speak and sing pretty similarly but I still have very strong remnants of my old way of producing sound at the extremes of my range; the "choir singer" at the low end(I can force more resonance but it hurts like hell) and the "yeller" at the high end(I haven't figured out how to go any higher with the technique I've been using so I might have to learn(or relearn) how to do that). I'm still working on this but I've made a lot of progress and have probably saved my voice from becoming unusable when I'm older.
A bit of context for my vocal range:
Before the relearning: E2 - E4 chest B3 - (barely)C5 weak falsetto
(incredibly strained and painful throughout entire range)
Current: B2 - F5-ish
(I don't know where my different registers start or end anymore I just blend throughout now)
(F5-ish because I have sung higher but I can't do it consistently without strain and for the longest time it felt like I had a hard cap at F5)
(I am much more resonant and strong in the higher end now but recordings always sound less resonant than it feels they should(If I use any more vocal fold closure it physically hurts and the sound is already ringing in my head loud enough to give me a headache))
tl;dr
I was a "yeller" to the point that every sound hurt my throat and had to relearn how to make sound from scratch

You are most certainly cute and most definitely inspiration to my motivation I thank you

ОтветитьI already know what kind of singer I am: terrible.
ОтветитьI have been witching yutube videos but this is the first video I am comment, I most say I love your energy and how bring out what you know to me I love you.
ОтветитьThis is very detailed and you’re spot on with all of this. I really appreciate how you describe the way everything feels. That, to me, is the most important part.
If I can sound right, but don’t feel the right sensations, then something’s off. Compensatory muscles can be a huge issue, and even worse when you don’t know they shouldn’t be the ones working... Painful stuff that’s best to be avoided with proper practice.. and knowledge about them.
Needless to say, I messed up and gained a lot of neck tension that I’m still working on
I'm more the Blender. I've had some vocal lessons through the years. My vowels are open, more like classical music. But I am a lyrical tenor and need more "power!" I know it's not all about volume but I need more! Wish I was a better soloist. Thanks for your videos. Very inspiring. Your increasing volume drill could help as well as other videos.
ОтветитьWhat if i m a flipper and choir singer?
