It's funny to watch this video immediately after watching the same guy rate cruiser brands where he rated HD below the Japanese big 4. I get the point of both vids. Just fun to see the shuffling of opinions to please two audiences :)

(of course this is coming from a guy who rides a Vulcan 900 and loves it--potentially Yamm's least favorite bike :).

well the whole problem with this video is Harley this Harley that you forgot one most important thing Indians rule !!!!!!! Most guys who buy metric bikes dont want to or dont know how to wrench bikes and think metrics are basically maintenance free witch is total false But the one thing I will say is sure is alot of fake bikers on Harleys now a days guys who wear suits all week and drop 30k on a Harley and another 15 k on cloths and gear to ride around the town they live in to show everyone how cool they are on their Harley

In South Australia once you do advanced Bike Course you can not have bike bigger than 650 for 2 years !!! SO i started on a Royal Enfield classic 500 then bought Yamaha V star XVS650 Classic Harley knock off , then after 2 years will get A Harley, to get off my bucket list. I could have bought Harley street 500 but they sound like a sewing machine !!

I would want to get the Honda, because I love how it looks. they are all comfy, they are cheaper, the handling as you all say it's better, I don't even like cruisers but the honda seems to be able to grab me.

I recently got back into riding. I am 57 yrs old and was seriously looking for something I could commute to work. My drive to with is 64 miles round trip and the Hemi Magnum was eating me alive in gas. Seriously over 550 dollars a month. I am past the point in my life for weaving through traffic and knee grinding twisties. I like the big obnoxious cruisers but did not like the price tag of the HD. I researched for about 2 months. I ended up with an 03 Honda VTX 1800S. Only 8K miles and snagged it for about 4k. It had been a while since I have mounted a bike so the weight was a thing for sure. A few months later though and I barley notice. Now I know this isn't the fastest thing out there but as they say, "no replacement for displacement". That 120 LB Ft of torque is a kick in the pants. And I feel pretty safe on the interstates with this monster. I know, should have just got an HD, but honestly, I did not want to pay twice as much for possibly a lesser bike. I have always had Hondas and they just run. Which is what I was looking for in a machine. And PS. I do have full gear. I am not into having my skin and brains all over the asphalt.

I just picked up a 2001 Kawasaki Vulcan 750 (first bike) wondering if you have an option on the bike … other than it’s twin carb setup is a major pain in the ass to work on so far I’ve only done parking lot stuff because it needed a little bit of love any advice would be appreciated and keep up the good work

Maybe a little late.
My first bike was a dual-sport(XL250 md11) and my second is still a rebel 500. I love this bike.
In the past i've only ridden an iron 883 and a Fatboy. It was fun for a few days and i'm missing this "no shifting for me bro" behavior because of a lack of ccm.

PS: Almost all of your points were right.
PPS: Most people consider me as NERD. ^^

It's not about pennies, dude... it's about the difference between being stranded on the side of the road vs. being on the metric that pulls over for the guy stranded on the road. That's reliability - not pennies. Assured and consistent performance. Every time.

Just not a Harley guy, Yam. Got 2002 Sabre 1100 and I love it. My dream bike is an '86 Shadow 1100. Just really like the style of it. In my experience, a lot of "Harley Boys" are condescending elitists who just want to shit on anything that isn't a Harley and make somebody feel less than because they didn't buy the "Sony of the motorcycle world". Not my style, man. Ride what you like because YOU like it and enjoy yourself.

As someone who has loved Harleys my whole life and been riding and working on them for almost three decades, there's one serious problem that I've never encountered on any of my Japanese bikes, i.e. you can't let a Harley sit very long before they just rust to pieces.

Harley owners today are basically the exact same people who bought Harleys 50 years ago. The younger generations don't want to spend all morning washing and polishing all that chrome before they take it out on the road which is probably why Harley is building all these blacked out no-nonsense bikes now. Even so, I don't think that's going to save Harley.

As much as I practically idolized the bikers and gangs thundering down the highways when I was a kid, the novelty has worn too thin for me to take these clowns seriously anymore. After hanging out on poker runs or riding only a few miles with these guys I suddenly realized that the vast majority of them are complete imbeciles.

The only one I relate to is not having a loud exhaust. I do have to worry about loud exhausts in my area for decibel machines with cameras that will ticket you for noise. And I have to leave early in the morning and home late, and my neighbors are all old retirees who would put in a complaint. Not about "not having fun", but it is not the reason why I ride

Funny, I ride with “Harley guys “and 8 years ago I bought a victory, man I caught so much shit. All in fun, but these guys won’t say anything bad about Harley I loved my Vic bought a Indian a couple years after that. Now I only have my fatboy…20 years and still love it, I think I want a Tenere next, or a royal enfield, maybe a triumph, would love to get a old cb750. Pan American is interesting too. Fuck man I could go so many dif ways, I just love motorbikes friends.

I got my metric bike because of cost. I paid $400 for a bike that wasnt running because it had a completely neglected carb on a v4. Everybody out here only works on harleys or non-carb metrics. My bike cost less than getting 4 carbs cleaned professionally.

I had to put work in, but it was all labor intensive, not part intensive.

I'm not better than anybody else. I just wanted a hobby I would have fun with, would save gas with, and wouldnt put me in any more debt. I accomplished that with a metric bike. If I had paid $500 (my TOTAL cost in bike and parts) on a harley, I would have been lucky to even get a frame with a title.

Not saying anything negative about harley riders. But tbh, I get more shit from them than I've ever seen given by a metric owner to a harley owner.

The thing is, nobody ever said a Honda Shadow is thier dream bike. There are really only three kinds of riders. Sport bike owners. Harley owners, and metric cruiser owners that will eventually end up in one of the other two categories.

There is nothing wrong with metric cruisers. But, you won't stay on one forever.

Hey now, fuel mileage does matter! My 2000 Vulcan 800 classic is my commuter, about 100-120 miles per day. I do wish it had one of those phat Harley seats though! Although, for the most part a lot of this is accurate...... Liquid cooling is nice though for when your parked on the beltline in 90+ degree weather not moving. And really, sometimes it does boil down to "at least it's not a Harley" doesn't even have anything to do with the bikes. Although, I will say the types of people that I see on Harleys now is a lot different than what I remember growing up, so that's slowly changing ha ha.

The Honda weighs nothing but it looks and sounds sad. I would rather have an HD Sportser. I just wish Suzuki would make a parallel twin of the Savage 650 and offer a sports bike platform like a TU. A TU650 and TU1300 would be cool.
