These comments are interesting, although admittedly annoying in lack of depth.
I'll leave it simple: Think about how the idea of going to Harvard was never really visited on a susbstantive level until the choice actually had to be made.

I was never sure, if this scene was a happy slow burn until they got it,
or acting by the grandparents, wich would be kinda sad, really

Happens after you get with guys. Men ruined her life. She let them. They were manipulative and she got addicted to men.

The only reason she went to Yale is because Harvard wouldn’t let the show film there 😂

Rory is her mother. As she gets older she becomes her mother. Rory becomes less serious less driven more dependent on her grandparents. Just like her mother. During high school Rory tried not to be like her zany mom. But from college and beyond she got more and more like her unserious dependent mom. Rory is her mother. All of us eventually become like the people we are around the most.

Rory still has a full life ahead of her at the end of “A Day in The Life.” She’s not a loser. I hope they keep having more special episodes. I see Rory as Mayor of Stars Hollow.

It's kind of sad that Richard and Emily had to play down their reaction to Rory going to Yale for fear of setting off Lorelai. It shows how they truly walked on egg shells with her in order to keep a relationship with her and Rory because they know if Lorelai is mad then Rory is mad.

Rory deciding to go to Yale was the beginning of the end for her.

Lorelei was so childish about how she acted about Yale. How horrible would she have felt if Rory didn’t get into Harvard and that was the only school she applied to? She acted like an uneducated brat who clearly had no idea how the college application process worked.

I wish Rory never got accepted to Harvard even though she didn’t go anyway, it would’ve been a really good early lesson about how you don’t always get what you want and have to roll with alternatives sometimes. I feel like if Harvard has rejected her than she would’ve gotten a reality check earlier on in the show than she eventually does.

She had to go to Yale plot wise. Like for the show to continue be Gilmore Girls, the Gilmore girls have to see each other regularly and still have Friday Night dinners etc

She should have just marry logan after graduation. Rory knows in her mind that she’s an heiress so she let herself to be broke and not strive harder and ended up being lorelai too getting pregnant but the difference is she has diploma, but the baby has no father to be ..im referring on gilmore girls a year in the life..

Why Yale over Harvard? Isn't Harvard>Princeton>Yale a pretty obvious choice?

LMAO the comments aren’t a vibe. if ur scrolling down through all these opinions of how Rory turned out like this, then i SERIOUSLY advice you to stop ✋ and seriously just listen, listening to other peoples opinions?? then forming your own based ON THEM..? everybody in this comment section, has basically the same exact opinion and states the same exact thing BECAUSE THEY HEARD IT FROM OTHERS and be like “ok it’s true then” .
UM?? Rory is literally FICTIONAL we don’t know how she turned out that way THE WRITERS DID IT not because everyone “babied her up” or told her she’s very good I GET UR POINT: Rory got told she’s good all her life, that when she was told she was bad she broke and believed it. <— your point.

MY POINT/OPINION: In the “real world” you have to be confident of yourself, not take others opinions to heart, and if you get criticism think about improvement, and work your way up! keep thriving and being confident YOU ARE WORTH it and can do so much.
In Rorys case (keep in mind, stop saying the “real world” for Rory. she’s fictional & rorys case was not real.) Rory took critisism way too deeply. and you know what all those people being like “Mitchum was right!!” he gave her the internship TO ASK FOR FORGIVENESS from that dinner with Logan’s family and then when he thought it was enough he told her she didn’t have LIKE HOWW DONT YALL GET THAT it wasn’t mitchums opinion, that’s your opinion .
When Rory grew up, her life got twisted around, why? because she wasn’t confident, she didn’t get many opportunities but she DID have it and i know you all can agree she wrote so many good papers, got a job while still being a student? she is capable, she really is the thing is, don’t compare this to YOUR LIFE you life comes to you, not on these peoples opinions about rory. and keep in mind, saying it for idk what time RORY is FICTIONAL so don’t compare A WRITTEN life to yours. Her actor, Alexis Bledel is a really good actor, <- 100% true so don’t be afraid if someone says that you’re really good because of the opinions of these people in the comments about rory because you can actually be, and you NEED that support so stay confident and don’t care. Alexis Bledel, as I said, is a really good actor, so her talent is acting, find your talents! It doesn’t matter if you’re not successful. Many artists, as you ofc know like Leonardo Picasso weren’t successful in their days but stayed confident, LOOK AT THEIR ART NOW and don’t say “ ur comparing with leonardo Picasso “ cause YES I AM? he is a person , and he was actually real.

If I hadn't seen A Year in the Life, I would not have become so disenchanted by this scene. Higher education alone doesn't improve one's life. One has to be motivated to get as many degrees, grab as many opportunities, and make as many connections necessary to build a stable career for themselves.

Actually Rory ended up going to Yale because the writers realized it made more logical sense, given Yale is in Connecticut, where Stars Hollow is also supposedly located, and if Rory had gone to Harvard the dynamic of the show would have drastically changed where it would have been harder to show Rory essentially still being tied to Stars Hollow. From a realistic standpoint if Rory had gone to Harvard she probably would have built her own independence because she would have been further away from Stars Hollow but from a filmmaking perspective, it would have been pretty difficult to show both plotlines consistently without them both looking like two separate shows.

After watching the series 3 times I can say this without any unsurity- Rory should have gone to Harvard. She wouldn't be babied too much by being able to go home often + plus it was her dream for a reason.
