This is BS. I got Bachelor Degree in Supply Chain to only make 100k/year. I am to force my kids to be doctors and pilots. This 100k life is nothing but depressing. Homes are 400k and pickup truck are 50k. It’s basically minimum wage.

My objection to the medical field is the Med Schools not producing enough graduates. If those salaries are going up because positions are not being filled, that is a sign the medical schools need to increase admittance. Also the internship model for becoming a doctor needs to be revamped to increase the amount of general practice physicians.

Can't believe you're a spine surgeon with all that blabbing. The answer is A LOT, most of it from office visits and consultations and not actual surgery because everyone is hysterical when it comes to the spine and must see a specialist after one day of acute low back pain instead of trusting their family physician.

Medical Doctors make way to much.. Biggest scam going. Way to much for a Jiffy Lube Technician.

To be a Medical Doctor you have to be able to memorize peer reviewed material and pass standardized tests that you are prepped for.

Zero thought capability. Never never could be an Physicist, Engineer, etc.. Ask one a question and look at the dull glaze in there eyes. One hour on Google with a pencil and a pad of paper and you can run circles around them. Clowns ...

Do you know how much money doctors in Serbia make? (in state hospitals)
About 15-20.000 $ a year
Come to Serbia and die from starvation! Welcome!

Many things go into how much you’ll bring home. The cost of buying an EMR is exceedingly expensive and because there are multiple options you’d better guess correctly. Malpractice insurance is dependent upon your specialty. Cosmetics is a cash only business so they will always win the day. The rest of us deal with reimbursement rates controlled by insurance companies. Peds and family practice may be at the bottom but you can be a generational physician, taking care of the same family for decades. Drug trials used to be a great way to increase your income, not sure if they are these days. Private practice is a dying breed. The new kids graduating these days want the safety of a salary and no risk. Unfortunately, we’ve started to see (RVU) productivity based pay even in university and hospital settings so the “safety” of those workplaces is decreasing. My advice, do what you love. If you’re lucky you’ll be doing it for decades (43+ years).

Most important of all besides the outer galaxy incomes doctors make is that doctors are happy with what they do as it pertains to their respective careers.

That “nice” salary doesn’t include income taxes. Uncle Sam is going to tax the $*** out of that income before you DOCS ever get paid.

P.S. you docs do a very noble job taking care of all of us. My hats off to you.

Looking at only salary is like determining if you want to become a pro NBA athlete based on income. There’s a lot more to it and a LOT of hurdles. Most people applying to orthopedic surgery residency programs don’t get in, and I’m fairly sure spinal surgery is a sub specialization fellowship. You’re looking at a lot of years, assuming you get selected in the first place. There’s a lot of culling at each turn.

This is why I’m glad I chose cybersecurity…decent enough money and no quotas.

it's also worth noting: when people discuss whether it's worth paying half a million dollars for someone who studied for 15 years or not, we should also note that physicians in the US make vastly more money than physicians in almost every other country outside of the US, and physicians essentially set the rules for how to educate and train new physicians. When debating whether the salaries of MDs are ethically justifiable, we might be wise to also note that NPs and PAs have grown dramatically in the past decade largely because they can do most of the same work as the MD but earn only 1/3 of their physician colleagues.

It’s opposite in the nursing world everyone shares their salary because us nurses know that companies want it to be taboo to talk about to pay us less so we talk about it a LOT and now as a independant contract nurse I’m making $150,000 a year!

I totally agree with you that you should not let money be the top deciding factor in someone's medical profession decision because it is more of a calling. I would say only HS single mothers, waitresses, Hooters, Twin Peaks, only fans and stripper girls get into the medical profession for the money as nurses in many cases. When my father died, the nursing staff was visibly upset and rolling their eyes because my mother was wailing and crying for him in the ER. Callous, floozy saloon girl like bedside manners. The kind of manners some virgin coal miner gets when he professes his love to a w** laid up in some whorehouse. It's like, "well, excuse the heck out of me. My husband, of 43 years, just died of a heart attack in front of me! "

But I wonder if the medical malpractice insurance is higher for those Specialties being that people can really mess up in cosmetic surgery or other and get sued. And I wonder how much of that money will be going to school school loans before they see their bottom line.
