So treeless.Ireland once had plentiful forest cover but almost all natural vegetation got exterminated.

That brings back memories for me, my auntie owned a cottage in Donegal, it was old, really old, rustic and absolutely beautiful. Auntie would treat us all when we were kids and invite us to the cottage for the weekend. Me being an atrociously bad traveller, I'd vomit five time getting there and back but it was worth it. They used to make large pyramids of the auld peat around the area and that's pretty much all you'd smell, sometimes we still buy in peat for the fire here in Belfast, it's wonderfully nostalgic. I seem to remember the Midge's being a right old pain though. Think if I visited Donegal again, I might not come back.
