Todd I have a question. 🙋‍♀️ for the image you where using since it was perfectly exposed, no need for any further adjustments in the basics tab just apply the preset?

I realize this video is three years old. Really beneficial information though for me. Do you recommend someone's Lightroom Presets as you recommend RNI products? I"d really like to get some good presets but am pretty new use of Lightroom and it seems there are thousands of people selling presets. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Any pointers for going the other way around? I've digitized a couple thousand of my mother's from the 70s and onwards, might not do all of that wall of magazines in the basement but wanna learn how to try and bring out some of the faded colors and washed out highlights. Digitized with a macro lens and a Godox M150 light, matching the 5600K white balance, but when trying to save blown out skies they turn brown - was the smog that bad in the 70s/80s? And shadows go blue. Maybe that's the charm. Asked ChatGPT and got an answer that kind of sounded right but I think it also wanted to make new pictures look like old

Are the filters in the RNI film app the same as the lightroom presets for a given film type?

One of the best damn videos I've seen in a while on this stuff. You have earned yourself a new subscriber, and I will be purchasing RNI as well.

Hi Todd! First of all, thanks for your amazing work. When I go to the website to download the free demo presets, I enter 0 as price but it shows me an error “the discount code is not valid”. Is there any problem? Thanks so much!!

RNI are really good but it’s quite expensive while you can get same look with Mastin labs. It’s like 50-50 with mastin labs. Some scene RNI are better even more like shot on film and some are Mastin labs better. So if you got that money go for RNI and if not get mastin labs

It is important to remember that negative film stock was only a starting point for print making. Yes, drug stores and mass printing services relied on preset formulas for making prints. But skilled color printers had more tools at their disposal to make prints with a pure black and a paper white. Improved color balance and other tweaks - such as burning and dodging - were also available in the darkroom. Negative film was just a starting point.

As one who learned photography in the darkroom, I am very happy with the amount of micro controls available with digital photography and post processing software. These tools allow you to get the perfect print out of the initial exposure in way that was nearly impossible in the darkroom. I’m not going back to film.

That said, I view these presets and profiles as shortcuts to finding the look you want for the final image. They allow you to quickly explore a range of options without tweaking individual sliders. With both profiles and presets, it’s also theoretically possible to stack different film looks to get hybrid effects quickly. Have fun. Don’t be satisfied with nostalgic mediocre drug store prints.

Yours are significantly better than the Mastin and VSCO stuff. More recently I've been using Alex Ruskman's stuff and tend to only use his and your stuff on my digitals 👍
