Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast Nintendo Switch Review - Is It Worth It?

This game aged like milk in the Arizona sun in the middle of summer.

It's incredible how they didn't make the game run in Widescreen, it's a simple line in the config file, what a shame.

Thus was my all time fav game on early pc.. do the cheats still work? Cuz itd be impossible to progress without.

wtf is the point of releasing only the SECOND game in the jedi knight series.. fucking stupid and annoying.

Jedi Knight series genuinely deserves a reboot. It was a masterpiece at its time. And even this review admitting it olds up despite modern changes says enough.

This is an old favorite of mine, and I bought it yesterday with the Heritage Pack. I was absolutely infuriated with the shooting bits, UNTIL I started using the motion controls. Use the joysticks for major movements, and motion controls for precise aiming. Once I got the hang of it, I was mowing down storm troopers in no time, while barely losing any health. Now I'm addicted to this game all over again, and I'm not even close to getting the lightsaber. Highly recommend.

The game is great but you need to have patience. Exactly the thing that Yoda was trying to teach Luke. Have patience and you’ll be rewarded in the end cos the game rocks!

Jan 2023 here and the gun combat is atrocious as ever, I'm wondering if the is a mod for the Steam version to make it playable.

Cheat code to get the lightsaber early.

New age gamers will hate the old school aspects of this game. Earning checkpoints, finding ammo, actually being good and actually finding out how to beat the level is is something that video games don't have anymore. You will die, you will restart. And you will have to get good to beat the game. If you can't handle this, go play some new age trash like destiny or madden.

I somehow beat this game when I was 11 and coming back to it some 20 years later, I have no idea how I was that patient.

The swordplay of Outcast 2 has never been replicated and it was the best

Played on PC, it gets better the second time round because you know what’s coming and the opening chapters become far less annoying because you can actually use your blasters more effectively with mouse and keyboard WSAD. Except for Nar Shaddaa streets. Nar Shaddaa streets will always suck balls. Forever. Rodian snipers and Gran grenade lobbers will drive you fucking mental.

Played this on PC and GameCube back in the day. Such a good game, if you can’t bare to play though the first few levels try Jedi Academy instead as you have the lightsaber from the get go.

I 100% agree and I was wondering why no one said ANYTHING about how arduous this first part was. Maybe to not tarnish the memory but GOODNESS is the first hours of the game just not fun. 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♂️

being like 10 and playing this on the old family pc, and how rewarding it was to get the lightsaber. also, was there an AT-ST you could use in the final mine level. I swear there was.

theyve implemented the cheat menu, you can get the lightsabre right from the beginning. you can also warp to any level. the first playthru should be with Mouse and Keyboard for sure. all console ports are bad in comparison.
Menu > d-pad Up, d-pad Down, L stick click, R stick click, L stick click

video games were hard ouzels were hard if you feel the need for easy game easy puzzle then go play something with your mom

Man I love this game but I was playing through and it just deleted all my saves for no reason. I love it but it’s stuff like that can really make it less enjoyable

Whoever designed some parts of this game were terribly hurt by something.

I'm glad Star Wars hasn't taken this eerie path too.

I knew got past the first level (boy I tried) and I don't think my uncle did either (then again finishing a game wasn't quite the thing back then).

It never stooped haunting me so I got his disc and installed, but things went bad halfway and the game went into a state of limbo where it was in the PC but not installed and could not be uninstalled or reinstalled either!
Only way out was to restore the system to before the game.

I took that as a sign but still played it later and conquered that dreaded first level.

The game for me resumes itself to that level. After it I did the Jedi training as usual and stopped at the bar in Coruscant or perhaps the next level that had you crawling for your life, the details get foggy.

Now I know why both Jedi Outcast and Mass Effect 2 have lightning powers - So you can at least see where you're stepping.
It's as if all light and happiness had been sucked out of the universe.

Game is fun but it's a fucking labyrinth.

its actually nothing as hard as the review says. I dunno, i like doom in ultra-violence and Bloodborne.
Graphycs are a mix bag Its actually a good artistically designed game with stable framerate, Looks pretty good for a game first released on like 2002 and that textures are actually reworked from the pc.
If anyone had the doubt this is not the gamecube copypaste port, its more a v1.04 pc port.

As it happens I enjoyed the shooting but detest the light saver levels. Struggling to get pat Desann’s apprentice and have no idea what the combat controls are other than swinging the saber around.

So what I'm basically gathering from this review is that a zoomer is butthurt for being outsmarted by pretty straight-forward level design in a 20 year old game.

IMO, jedi outcast is kinda meh. Sure, the good parts are amazing. The duels are 10/10, but before the duels start appearing, it's boring and frustrating. Jedi Academy is better.

Quick comment on your audio: It’s overcompressed. Using a compressor is fine, but (also depending what compressor you’re using) an attack time of 20 ms or more is a must. With this too fast attack, it makes the beginnings of syllables unnatural and unpleasant. Less is more. It really is.

I hella held this game in high regard on Xbox. Now I’m slipping and sliding. Dying all the time. And I can’t switch off my lightsaber.

I almost didn't get the game because I didn't want to play 4 hours of boringness but not only is the game 6 $ but there are cheats and a warp cheat so u can skip the boring levels and give your self all of the powers from the start if u wish

I really wanted to give this game a try but after hearing how horrible the first 5 levels of the game is, that just sounds like a giant pain in the ass to get through especially if you never played this before and don't have nostalgia goggles on. Damn shame since it looks like it'd be amazing if it was remade with better level design.

Man,I played Jedi Academy when I was younger,and dude it was one of my favorite games,if not my favorite. This seems very similar,and I'm probably gonna get both on switch, because I don't wanna dig out my computer to play my original saves lol

It's hillarious how people think this guy exagerates on purpose to prove bad aiming. No, the controls are THAT bad.

Bought it for 10$ hoping to refresh a game from my childhood and... it's just unplayable. The review is on point - you CAN force yourself to push through the shooting parts, but knowing that it could actually be FUN on PC just ruins the experience. I'm glad they've ported it, but it's just painfull, ruining the nostalgia for me. Go buy it on GOG / Steam.
