I have the EV6 GT which is not that less efficient and can get about 210 miles of range at 70mph. The reason why the Ioniq was so efficient is like my Nissan Leaf 2 which I still have, is the weight. My Leaf is 1580Kg and the Ionic is 1602kg, my EV6 and the Ioniq 5 to a lesser extent are much heavier, the GT comes is at 2200kg, that's 630 kg more than the Leaf. That's like carrying around six 105kg passengers plus the driver all the time, which uses a lot more power every time you accelerate, even gently and that's why many of the new cars are so inefficient.
Tesla makes their cars from aluminum which helps keep the weight down but even two very efficient motors and a big battery push the weight back up again.
Only when we make EVs in the sub-1500kg range will we see greater efficiencies from today's tech.

How is the charging infrastructure there ? In the US seems like we have major issues with chargers not working half the time making people drive from station to station trying to find a working one. We have the Ioniq 5 but never really road tripped it yet, just 100 mails a day from home to work and back but we have a charger in both places.

The most important bit is how much in actual dosh did it cost for the round trip compared to if it was on petrol......that is the crunch figure. all the other are just specs..

For some reason best known to themselves, Hyundai and Kia have declared war on rear wipers on their EV's. Sad really as they are great cars and a deal breaker for me because, as a farmer, I tow, a lot.

car brands/vehicles, societies and people change, amongst other things. to think that car brands cannot evolve is silly.

hyundai doesn't have to be pigeon-holed by anyone's preconceptions, stereotypes or notions.

Interesting as I cover many miles per day/year and considering going electric and was looking for a car that does good miles per kwh (looking and electric mpg). Noticed that the journey took you nearly 12.5 hours, Google maps puts the journey as 8.5 hours that's a big difference in time, also at a service station this week a charger there was 39p per kwh, given my BMW 320d over 5,000 miles across the Derbyshire Dale's averaged 62.6mpg with 70+ mpg from Chesterfield to Brighton and back it doesn't only save time (a considerable amount) but also cheaper (I filed up my car at £1.69 litre) and can travel in excess of 800 miles on a tank. The environment is obviously a concern with burning diesel but haven't looked at the unseen electric generation of power and how its pordcued in the UK as I understand last year wind power was lower than forecast due to low winds. The (unfortunate) conclusion looking at price difference for a 2 year old car (diesel v electric) cost per mile and inconvenience in time unfortunately I'll have to shelve my electric car dream's for now but hope in the near future the figures in time and cost means its a viable option under circumstances such as mime. Many thanks for the video its very informative and helpful in conclding where electric cars sits an option for me. Cheers again 👍 ho as a note I had a i3 with range extender 3 years ago but that too wasn't practical so only had it 2 months :-(

Great video.
Do you know how saddening is the condition of old (2013-2019) Hyundai owners 😒!?
Hyundai has just left them out in the dark with those leaky/oil-burning engines ⚙😡. When owners call stealership/dealership/Corporate 🏦they are just told to get engine inspected and finally somehow made to pay for those faulty engines themselves!. Its a Korean (cold-hearted) firm at the first place, and Hyundai is here for that "One-Time profit with No-strings attached" in the future! ™

I think it's a beautiful car. That said, paying 50 grand (USD)for something that will be worth 20k in 5 years that's the same size and interior as a 27k car is something I cant justify. EVs are overpriced and depreciate worse than any other vehicle. Big pricetag should bring luxury or performance. Big pricetag for efficiency alone is counterintuitive.

You owned it for three years, what do you think in terms of overall maintenance compared to a gasoline car, is it expensive, the same or cheaper. Also how convenient charging is because we don’t think about the availability of gas stations when we buy a gasoline or a hybrid car. Last but not the least how fast you can drive in eco mode. Thanks

I don't know, kind of looks like a pain in the ass to have to charge it that many times, just to go 500 miles. Also having to stay on a route that has charger stations is annoying.

In retrospective, I have a 450hp MK7 GTI that I get 520 miles out of one tank of gas ($40), going hwy speeds (65-70mph). So not only is my GTI quick with the power it has, very fun to drive, and very practical, but I can also take any route I desire, and make it to the same destination you took, taking the same route, but get there a lot quicker because I don't have to stop to charge my car, or get gas. A lot of us say time is money right?? Well, if time is money, I just saved a lot more money using my GTI.

I get that I spent $40 in gas to take that route, and that the Hyundai gets a free 3 years of charging, but still, the annoyance of having to continually charge the vehicle would add up very quickly, and make a road trip not much fun. So until EV's start coming out with 500 miles of advertised range (knowing in the real world you won't be getting that, and more like get 400 miles), then I'm just not interested in paying for one, especially since they're all so expensive still.

And you're completely wrong on the time you spent charging being "normal" for anyone to take a similar amount of time eating. Completely wrong man. Most people going on trips that long do not stop unless they HAVE TO use the bathroom or get gas. Usually stops are made when they need gas. So for most people, if they can make it 300, 400, 500+ miles in a tank of gas, they aren't stopping until they need gas, unless someone's bladder is about to burst haha. Most carry snacks in the car to keep moving. Nobody likes stopping on road trips more than they need to. So you saying they do is utter bull, and is just an EV guys excuse to make themselves feel happy about the purchase of their low range vehicle. If your EV vehicle had a range of 500 miles, would you be stopping more than you need to? The answer is NO, which basically removes the validity of your whole argument now. And then those on road trips who need to fill up, normally fill up and get on the road, quickly. They don't take the extra hour to get food and such, of what time you HAD, or in other words, were FORCED to take. You have no choice as an EV owner. You have to stay until its charged. And then you say "we got food while its charging" blah blah blah. You are now limited to where you can eat because you have no vehicle to take you to where you want to eat, because its being used to be charged lol. Either having no choice, or walking somewhere to go get food...its all a hassle in the long run man.
