The previous 5 years recorded average number of shark attacks is 63, whereas this latest yearly average is 69. this doesn't mean much at all. OK it's 6 more than the previous 5 year average, but taking a single yearly percentage and comparing it to the average taken over a 5 year period is a pointless stat, thats true purpose is designed to sensationalize something purely for media clicks. Also think about those previous 5 years, many of those years had hardly any tourism (which would be Tobago's main income stream for the locals) so basically it's a pointless stat

I shudder when I think how we swam every day from children to about 50 years of age, in areas where there have been attacks - Muizenberg, Fish Hoek, Plettenberg Bay, Pringle Bay, Miller's Point. I'm not sure if there were any attacks on KZN beaches, we were too busy trying not to be drowned or dashed onto rocks by massive waves to worry about sharks. I only stopped on doctor's orders because my back became too fragile and I had to give up swimming in the ocean, mountain biking and horse riding.

My mom had been out on helicopter flights in False Bay and told us of the massive Great Whites cruising just beyond the breakers, so I'm actually surprised there are not way more attacks. The worst sight we ever saw was a seal that had managed to drag itself onto the rocks outside a seaside restuarant, horribly mangled by a shark.

I don’t get it with all the shark attacks that have been happening nobody is listening. Before you decide to go in the water you should always read about the attacks that have been happening lately. I grew up on the ocean and there’s no way in hell that I would go in that ocean I wouldn’t even put my feet in there after everything I have seen in the last 65 yrs nope never going back in there.

I wish they stop playing shark attacks as "freak accidents". Otherwise, there wouldnt have been cases were people are totally consumed by a shark. If its hungry enough and not just being territorial, it will be no accident that you are bitten or eaten.

Hi from Scotland! It really pees me off when things like Rewards for catching a shark that injured a swimmer are on offer!! Humans take the dumb risk to go in the water, then moan when attacked! Then people call for the death of the shark 🤬 Outrageous! Leave these beautiful creatures alone. If u get bit, thats tough! JUST STAY OUT THE WATER!!! 🦈

Clearly, this proves the tourist was not 100% human because clearly the science says sharks don't eat humans. Yes, this person is clearly a non-human freak...
It clearly proves the science once again that sharks do indeed love eating freaks, though.
So, freaks beware, sharks are 100% the reason u will have an accident swimming at our beaches...

This is the first attack we have ever had in Trinidad and Tobago. I mean we have never had an attack of any kind and we have plenty sharks. We have enjoyed swimming, skiing, hydrosliding, surfing, windsurfing, all water sports in the open oceans and beaches, nothing. The only thing we had to watch out for was stinging jelly fish. Times are changing not just for humans but the animal kingdom as well apparently.

White's are common in equatorial Carribean? I know in the Pacific due to the openess of the ocean Arctic currents from the north a driven far down and the water is colder by the Americas so white's are at much lower latitudes than typical, but in the Atlantic I have not heard of White's commonly in true tropical waters, eapecial very close to the equator

Culling for money rewards isn’t what should be happening here. If people swim in foreign tropical waters there HAS to be some sort of thought process running through their head that sharks are a “ Potential “ hazard.

It isn’t rocket science.

People choose to swim in these waters at their own risk. You cannot just kill sharks when accidents happen . This is how these animals are programmed to survive and we NEED them in their OWN habitats for OUR OWN survival.

Once they’re gone WE are gone.

Get this correct !

I live in Puerto Rico and I’ve been going to beach almost every week for years. I’ve never seen a shark until a month ago. After a video of about 12 tiger sharks feeding off a carcass of a dead humpback off the coast of Puerto Rico. And then for the first time a see a fin. I did realize it was a shark until I saw the tail too… It was not a small shark. Fin was big and the distance between each was 5 to 6 feet away. I will saw around 30 meters away from where I was. I never go to deep in and know it will be closer to the sand for sure

The bull sharks also have a habit of swimming up rivers.

It’s so moronic offering a reward for the sharks capture. The chances of catching the actual shark is 1/100, people should know the risk by now and it’s on them if something happens.

I'm sorry but putting a bounty out on a shark after an attack is quite possibly the dumbest thing you could do. Sharks swim hundreds of miles each day looking for food and most of the time with these so called 'bounties' people end up catching and killing sharks that are unrelated to the incident at all. This feels like a very emotional revenge filled human decision to just wipe out any sharks in the area on that particular day without actually being logical about the situation and realising that the same shark is long gone and was just looking for an opportunistic meal.
