Well if the Godzillasaurus on odo island survived a nuclear bomb I'm positive a few bullets from a plane won't even tickle him

If Godzilla is so smart, why did he go after the japenese and not keep targeting Americans?

I think its possible he could've killed Godzilla with the 20m gun, because regular bullets were still able to hurt him. So he's still just regular occurring animal. But this would prove to be a problem later down the line. Cause hypothetically what if another monster was made from the nuclear testing? So they'd be right back to the same problem. And what if at the end of the second film, King Ghidorah shows up, Earth would be completely defenseless. And we all know Takashi Yamazaki did say he wanted to do something with King Ghidorah. So he might be put in a later installation. So it would be worse because Godzilla wouldn't be around to defend earth from King Ghidorah! Just a hypothetical to think about;)

Shikishima definitely wouldn’t stop Godzilla if he opened fire on him but he would probably still be injured and retreat into the forest where he would regenerate and probably hate humans even more

Godzilla's regenerative abilities are imperfect. Even after recovering from the bomb, we see that he can still scar (specifically from the mine which detonated in his mouth and left a scar on his cheek).

I think the movie gave us the perfect amount of information about Godzilla. I think it’s way more interesting to not know whether the 20mm would’ve worked or not. That way we the audience can be tormented alongside Shikishima as well as be able to let go of not knowing at the end and find peace in what was finally accomplished…. at least for now.

Based on the information you gave, I fully agree with you that the 20mm guns would not stop Godzilla and lead to a far worse situation.

He wouldn't have killed Godzilla due to his regenerative abilities but he might've injure him enough that Godzilla would've retreated

I think that it’s a silly question- of course his gun wouldn’t work. The themes of the movie hammer home how his needless sacrifice wouldn’t have saved Japan from WW2s outcome, and it wouldn’t have stopped Godzilla.

The fact that the US can't help because of fear it will alert the Soviets I think paints an interesting picture for the sequel. Rodan was made to represent Soviet Russia. Godzilla vs Rodan would be a first for the series and could represent America and Japan's fight against the Soviets

Man, I hope the novelisation gets an official English translated release.

Hey glad you are back up. I don't think Shikishima could have killed Godzilla even if he had fired because his plane was in a position to properly hit him. The plane was stationary, so the guns couldn't have moved or tracked his movements. Godzilla's stance holds much of his body out of the line of fire, the most he would hit was his legs. And yes, his head was in the gun sights at one point but those sights are calibrated for wing mounted guns, for targets 100s of feet out, so their triangulation would put the line of fire on either side of his head, maybe he would have clipped the jaw that is all. In turn Godzilla would have spun around and tail whipped Shikishima's plane killing him. I am surprised none of the mechanics would have thought of these but things were tense. Thought?

OMFG ! I done figured it out. Adam Wingard introduced a couple non classic Godzilla roars in Godzilla X Kong, instead going with more generic, fill in the blank type monster roars, which seems to be the same roars Fortnite is using. SHENANIGANS I TELL YOU! Is there gonna be a new generation of Godzilla fans, unaware of what he's supposed to sound like?
With Godzilla Minus One winning Tohos first Oscar, & the icon currently more popular than ever, even in Japan, are Toho planning on making different roars mandatory between Japan Godzilla, & Monsterverse Godzilla to seperate the two?

I think if the Godzillasaurus was a normal animal without his regeneration power A 20mm would have got the job done especialy if the ammo was a mix of HE (high explosive) and AP (armor piercing). I think even an animal of that size would have been destroyed if it didn't have regeneration powers in my opinion. P.s. glad to see you back .

Thematically, I think it’s perfect Shikishima couldn’t have killed Godzilla. If that moment of inaction was a parallel to him fleeing his role as a kamikaze pilot, it is very in line with the film’s message of the value of human life and that needlessly sacrificing life isn’t the answer. If Shikishima could have killed Godzilla, which would have gotten himself killed in the process, it would have undercut the whole message. The writing and cohesion of this movie is just so brilliant.

This is probably one of if not my favorite ability(s) he has. His potent regeneration/reactive evolution. His ability to adapt to any obstacle. The fact the novel confirms he regenerated from ash after the nuke has insane potential that I feel has been hinted at with most if not all other incarnations of Big G. Even though he has this ability I love how the franchise still manages to have stakes in its films even though he, as a character can be described as OP. Love it.
