Viral genome sequencing plays a key role in tackling the global pandemic affecting tomato & cucurbit plants, by enabling to better identify and monitor the spread of viruses and their variants in fields & greenhouses in Europe and across the globe.
The EU-funded VIRTIGATION project aims at developing a set of organic, innovative solutions to safeguard tomato and cucurbit plants from the emerging viral diseases caused by the tobamovirus ToBRFV (Tomato brown rugose fruit virus) and the begomovirus ToLCNDV (Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus). This will include the development of new methods to improve viral genome sequencing to tackle ToBRFV and ToLCNDV.
