I thought this would be an average, uninteresting film... But it turned out to be beautifully written, directed and acted by all who were involved... Geraldine Page was simply flawless and deserved her Oscar win... and the music to it, wow.. Don't miss this little gem!

Geraldine Page was a national Treasure, especially to lovers of the theater. One of the greatest American actresses who ever lived (especially on the legitimate stage.) Wish she would have lived to a really ripe old age so younger generations could have enjoyed her work(on stage and screen.) Very well-deserved and long overdue Oscar win here.

A true American treasure. Noone can match Mrs. Pages talent. See was just the best and this film displays her greatness in all its glory.

Agree w/ organboi-awful trailer; does nothing to capture the greatness of this film. Watched it w/ a friend who had to see it for a college class; wasn't at all enthused at the prospect, but am I glad I joined him anyway. One of the best, most touching, moving films EVER. Ms. Page left me in tears!

Small wonder the trailer didn't capture this movie's spirit.  The movie is an organic whole that unfolds itself gradually to the viewer.  There are no great spikes, just a steady, extraordinarily well done story of melancholy and, perhaps, a ray of hope at the end.

that bust station scene at the end. Who was the young actress? Was that Penelope Ann Miller?

Hey guys, it is old (if you consider the 1980's old) but why would that matter?  A great movie transcends time and this is a great movie.  So watch it.  Watch Geraldine Page's masterful and Oscar winning performance and enjoy it.

The ticket agent that Geraldine Page asks for a "Trip to Bountiful was my high school math teacher, Norman Bennett.

Able to smell the talcum powder my Nanny used to wear. Can just picture the garters with her stockings and pale pink undershirt ladies of Nanny's generation wore. Geraldine Page is just perfect. ❤

To me this is a very well made horror movie. I can't stand feminists, but it's very frustrating to watch this story of how a woman's whole life was ruined by failing to stand up to bossy men, first her father, then her son. But i guess that's how things were in the south back then.
