I always have used stuff. I think people clean the air filter on this model with fuel. Then it clogs. Also it seems this B and S model seems to like to be inclined forward to start.

My lawn mover while working simply stopped for no reason. Fuel was okay, spark plug is in good shape. It giving good spark. But the starting pulls mounted unit came off when I pulled he rope.
It’s fixed with three screws which are weak and worn out. I somehow fixed the unit but the engine doesn’t start. It fires once and stops. Could not figure out the reason.
I live in New Jersey and would like to bring it to you if you’re nearby. Else advice me what to do. The lawn mover is four years old but I have been working with it regularly without prolonged rest.

In the manual it says to replace the spark plug every year. Mine is on the 2nd year running just fine.

I inherited my dad's old Briggs mower and I must have it 15 years now. In that time I think I've only changed the oil twice and the same for the spark plug. That thing still purrs after all those years. I think those old Briggs and Stratton mowers are the best.

Is it best to leave it empty of fuel over the winter?

Mine wouldn’t start in Spring. I was told to use premium gas/petrol. Zoom! Worked like a charm.

Help, I added way too much engine oil and now the lawn mower won’t start ( it was working perfectly before I overfilled it) drained the excessive oil and now, I can’t pull the starter rope!!! Someone anyone please help

Thank you for your easy to understand directions! I'm hoping to start up my smaller push mower this season. I bought it used, and it never worked quite right. I haven't used it in years, and I'm sure that there is no gas left in it.

I can rebuild these motors hammered drunk with my eyes closed but I still come back to watch them from time to time in case I've forgotten to check something

I have a Mountfield RV40 engine, yes its about 15 years old but was running fine. Trying to start it feels like the timing is out making it hard to pull the cord. I have removed the carb, cleaned and replaced, new spark plug. I have taken off the fly wheel, the key looks ok and flywheel fits nice. How do you adjust the timing on this model. I have removed the head and looks like the valves are opening and closing correctly. Not sure wher to go next. keith

When I was a in high school in 1995 mechanic class teacher was my history teacher Mr. Moore he told me to teach the mechanic class and we had 20 lawnmower’s and my friends and me got all over them running in 2 weeks and Mr. Moore history teacher was proud of me in all my friends! Mr. Moore knew my father said Robert teach the class and I got award for teaching all got A’s

Put some gasoline in it.

Clean the air filter ✓ I ALREADY DID and put gasoline in it ran out mower 3 yards had a AORTIC RUPTER AND REPAIRS SINCE ALSO REQUIRED

I have my grandads old Honda mower that he bought in 1989 and it still works as I had it serviced last year...fast forward to now and it ticks over but will not run...I'm not very good with engines but would like to fix it myself...wish me luck

The reason mowers don't start in the spring (as well as motorcycles, chainsaws and weed trimmer) is mainly because the gas has turned to varnish over the winter and clogged the carb journals and jets. Adding Seafoam in the fall will eliminate the problem and the engines will start up no problem. I've been using it for 20+ years and never have to work on my carburators anymore. (use it on your snowblower in the spring also!)
