Diving Lighthouse Point Grand Cayman | The Shore Dive Collection | TropicLens - 4K

Lighthouse Point sits on the western most tip of Grand Cayman. It’s home to a terrific mini wall, 9-foot tall Guardian of the Reef statue and lots of sea life. Unfortunately, it has been hit by the stony coral tissue loss disease which has been spreading across the Caribbean, but DiveTech and other organizations have been quite active in research, treatment and mitigation strategies.

It seems every dive site has something new for us and this was no exception. First time captures included some arrow squid, leathery and netted barrel sponges as well as a sheepshead porgy…which kind of looks like a tiger. There were also a few special encounters with uncommon animals like a beaded sea cucumber, ciliated false sequilla and a midnight parrotfish. There was even a king helmet out for a walk, which we haven’t seen before.

There is a lot to enjoy at Lighthouse Point. Hopefully, this video does it justice. Let us know what you think.

FIRST TIME CAPTURE IDENTIFICATION

We primarily use two sources to validate our first time captures. The first is Florent's Guide To TheTropical Reefs which can be found at https://reefguide.org. Its free and has lots of pictures, but is not comprehensive. The second is “The Reef Set: Reef Fish, Reef Creature and Reef Coral (3 Volumes)”. The box set can be found on Amazon; however with all our travels, we also purchased the eBooks (http://fishid.com/store/product-category/ebooks/) so we don’t have to carry an extra five pounds of paper in our luggage. :-) We may also reference other sources from time to time as well.
