As a practicing psychiatrist and the producer of this film, I have always wanted to make a film on mental health educating the community about the stigma surrounding the mental illness and the intricacies of mental health system. Grateful to Garret Morgan for helping me realize this passion project.
It is truly heartwarming to get such insightful feedback from all of you.
Please share this film with your friends, your family, your community.
Thanks, everyone.

In the US ECT is commonly done as 'out patient' also. People still have the impression that it's like One Flew Out of the Cuckoo's. It's more like going to the Dentist, with anesthetist. I'm disappointed that your documentary continues a lot of the faults impressions of the procedure. The rest of it was spot on. thank you

They should bring back mental hospitals for those who slip through the cracks. No one should be homeless and not getting medication, good food, support and most importantly good therapy, light therapy, education, job experience, basic health checks etc. There is no excuse as to why people can not afford these things or the state pay for it. As humans we should all be treated equally. I also think most cause of mental health is trauma. Reglion has a major role in mental health issues. Being gay is not an illness. Most of the rest of the western world already knows this. Paranoid schizophrenics should be hospitalized if they go off their meds as they can be extremely dangerous. The only homicides in this country are from paranoid schizophrenics off their meds, gangs and the mentally ill.

This is such a great documentary. It is spot on and we still need to do a lot of work to improve it. If I were a millionaire....

Also, according to the NIH, 1 out of every 5 cases of schizophrenia is caused by an infection of Toxoplasmosis gondii. This is a protozoal infection typically contracted from a cat that is allowed outdoors. These cats become infected after they catch and eat an infected rat. At least 3 of my family members became sick from this. One was diagnosed "bipolar with psychosis," one "schizophrenia," and the third (me) developed heart disease. I was given no diagnosis at all because I figured out how to cure it naturally.

Also according to the NIH, antipsychotic drugs such as valproic acid work to diminish psychosis symptoms by slowing down the protozoa's rate of reproduction. Of course, the drugs only work partially. They aren't designed to kill all the protozoa because that might cure patients which would, in turn, reduce profits.

The NIH also says that the herbal extract, artemisinin, kills protozoa. So, do psychiatrists routinely give artemisinin to their psychotic patients to see if they are infected with T. gondii? Heck, no. There's no law that says they must even TRY to cure anyone, so they don't. They just turn each and every patient into a lifelong customer of psychiatric goods (drugs) and services (talk therapy) until they eventually die. Why? Because that's what they're taught to do by the American Psychiatric Association. And the APA is all about profit.

Great job on making this video, Garret. With all due respect, the real problem is that psychiatric treatment isn't designed to cure anyone. It's designed to bring in the highest profits. Twenty-plus years ago I treated my "incurably" mentally ill relative with the orthomolecular approach. It enabled me to taper him off of 3 daily antipsychotic drugs over 4 months. At that point his mental health was restored. His symptoms were no longer being suppressed with patented, synthetic drugs. I have 3 videos here on YT on the ortho-m approach at Linda Van Zandt's Mental Health Recovery Channel. I'm also starting up a FB group, "Curing Our Mentally Ill Loved Ones."

----My mother was diagnosed manic. I attempted suicide 5 times because of the lack of self-worth supported by mother's inability to communicate love & care for me. Her mental illness was swept under the carpet, ending up with the proverbial elephant in the living room that no one talked about but we all knew lived there. Through 37 yrs in AA recovery myself, having my reality validated was 1 of my prime issues, and still is today with 23 yrs intentional sobriety at the young age of 72... Living an active RECOVERY program, I am finally living comfortable living in my skin...

this is like many documentaries that have been made about 'mental illness'. as a peer support specialist, the view point of people in this, like every other, is purely medical model. and there is always the notion that it's treatable but for the actual funding for psychopharmacology not being stable or below what is needed. the US continually fails at the notion of 'mental health' parity laws. there are issues that would benefit from trauma therapy or other kinds of non-drug treatment. many people who deal with these issues are still in need of basic support like housing, food, medical care, etc. typically from medicaid. my point is that many people deal with trauma that can be treated with non-drug treatment like EMDR, trauma therapy, access to peer support. this video talks about someone dealing gay conversation and rape. psychopharmacology is not a 'cure' for that. you may not be aware of the hearing voices network that helps people deal with 'voices' outside of the psychiatric system. I still don't know why anyone still talks about ECT in any nonchalant way. as the main issue is memory loss and it has no real notion of what it does. the 'newer' version still does this. people also think the DSM is a 'diagnosis' of a disease. instead it was made by people who voted on these groupings of symptoms. this is why it had homosexuality. because it is a product of culture, not a scientific endeavor. It is also mentioned that political protesters or unruly housewives were put into asylums. we are 'doing better' than the 1900s but not as great as the system thinks it is.

Thank you, this is insightful, what needs to be done is to stop those of us with Mental health issues from being faulted, blamed for every darn mass shooting that occurs. I don't own a gun, nor do I plan to own one. I think the semi-automatics don't need to be on the streets. I think some of those who blame us are the same people who expect children to go to school and not be protected by safety. not guns in schools. People want to rid our country of reproductive rights but have sandy hook happen and columbine. Keep the rifles for your deer permit. People in the system need to get mental health first aid. Another thing is to help support parents who are having trouble with their family member who is SMI. The system needs gated community for those who need to be supervised Like a neighbor I had who argued with himself at 3 AM probably with a psychosis. I don't bother my neighbors with my MDD ADD< GAD, and OCD. plus, my visual impairment. i am a college student who is studying Psychology. I am self-advocating. I think this country needs to prioritie Therapy, Cognitive behavior therapy is something that insurance should do, I can't afford it. I am going through a tough time with my spouse and best friend possibly dying. It has me in a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I am seeking help, as I always do. My residence has a library of print books, I use a magnifier. If you are SMI consider sparing the system of procreating if mental illness is part of your genetics. I am childless by chioce.because of this.

If there is money to be made in the business of health and medicine then it will attract the most unsavory of characters. But this is what drives the American healthcare system. It does not search for answers or solutions, but to keep you on the tab.

I just watched a Korean drama series tackling heavily the stigma on mental health issues by showing different kinds of patients and how it affects the people around them especially the pscyhiatric nurses and doctors who gradually get to unearth issues they have as they spend time and care for their patients. You can watch it online, the title is, ‘Daily Dose of Sunshine.’ ❤
