How Alex was portrayed in this sucked big time. She even says at the end "I'm tired of everybody wanting me to grow up or to change or not be selfish".

She has magical powers and using them irresponsibly is absolutely dangerous JUST AS THE MOVIE ITSELF PROVED!
Part of responsibility is understanding how to use your newly found freedom responsively! Being careless with magic and then getting upset that people don't throw you parties or celebrate your selfish decision is a poor message to the people (kids) watching.

And Harper is basically an enabler. She so uses to Alex's disruptive and bratty ways she is numb to it by then. Any real person (friend) would have spoken out against someone being immaturely selfish because letting someone continue to be a menace to society is a good way for that person to end up as a lowlife/criminal and you their partner or victim.
