Ok this didn't help much, i am trying to figure out if my intel core i7 that comes in a hp elitedesk 800 g3 mini pc that i am wanting to convert into a gaming pc will have enough cores to run most games. I am not trying to spend a lot but will be willing to upgrade later down the road if my computer will take a stronger cpu.
ОтветитьI'm using an i7-3770. And the only limitations I'm feeling is that there's certain things I can't do because it's lacking newer instruction sets. Like I can't use a PS3 emulator.
I'm considering upgrading to an AMD AM5 motherboard with a Ryzen 5 6/12 7000 Series CPU. I'm choosing AMD AM5, because I think I'll have a lot of CPU choices in the future should I want to change. Really not feeling the need to get a 8/16 CPU.
But outside of playing the latest games, there hasn't been a lot I've had trouble with. It's weird to not have a compelling reason to upgrade my PC in such a long time. i7-3770 came out 12 years ago.
Why not the 4790k
ОтветитьYes, it still is even today for gaming. I have a system in my living room we use as a consume that has an i5-6500, 16gb TridentZ ddr4, 128gb boot SSD, 1TB bulk SSD, Radeon R9 Fury Tri-X 4gb HBM, just a cheap PC. I built it for less than the price of a console, too. I paid $168 for everything because I built it out of mostly old Office PC parts.
In Modern games, it does shockingly well. Like in Hogwarts Legacy at mostly High settings with a few med, it sits at a solid 60FPS with dips into the 50s, well within and even better than console quality. The Witcher 3 runs on all Ultra settings and sits at solid 60fps with basically no dips or stuttering whatsoever. Same thing goes for Foetnite, Minecraft, Hearts of Iron 4, Hell Let Loose, Squad and Squad 44/Post Scriptum, etc. Basically every game we have played on the system.
Do a new video in 2024
ОтветитьI just run everything real-time priority on a 13900KS. Ultimate Performance with core-parking fully enabled. I just play games, and although the PC is not useable during benchmarks like R23 or Passmark, once they complete, the scores increase significantly and everyday use like gaming has the absolute lowest delta for processing. Running everything real-time priority on a computer whose 32 threads are rarely saturated is just fine and almost 100% harmless, for a noticeable improvement in performance that I'd say is even better than what a hefty overclock would grant on its own. I run my 13900KS stock save for Re-BAR and XMP in BIOS. I use Process Lasso for the priorities, CPU sets, and CPU affinities. I didn't touch the actual Windows Scheduler at all.
ОтветитьI did a custom build about 15 years ago, with Gigabyte Sniper m2 mobo, Intel 3770k, twin Intel 500GB SSD RAID0, using onboard video, and this puppy is still cooking with gas. Considering upgrading (HA!) to a 4790k for $200, but not sure it's worth it.
ОтветитьThese benchmarks for games show above 100fps for all cpus. I only ever play 60 fps... Most people also only ever play 60fps. So I guess yeah it does not matter.
ОтветитьIs this still true today?
Ответитьi dont have access to money to try and buy nice components, i have a dell precision 3420 that i put 32 gb of ddr4 in, it has a i5 6500 4 core cpu, and i have a gt 1030. it genuinely impresses me with what this thing can do. but i actually managed to get a broken r9 380 4gb gpu which i fixed, its great knowing how to actually tinker with stuff because i bought the card for $15 and it works great now. sorry for the rambling i have nobody to talk to about this
ОтветитьI'm still rocking my i7-6700K and I don't mind it honestly.
At 720p high settings or 1080p medium settings on most modern games, it can achieve over 60fps.
I had a i5 7400 and upgraded to a i7 7700 and it made a huge difference for my pc. It made my pc much more usable and i have no problems with it other than the stock cooler which i changed with a bigger aftermarket one
ОтветитьTop video! totally Agreed!
ОтветитьSo can I play on a Intel Core i7 3.4G up to 3.9G,GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8G GDDR6,32G,1TB SSD - 3rd gen - 4 cores??? With low setttings in all games
Ответитьi like when the processor fell over🤣
ОтветитьWent from a 4770k to ryzen 5 5600 (with a 2070 super) Depsite what everyone will tell you, the difference is very very small, and not very noticable unless you are obsessive over FPS. In real world gaming scenarios you will not notice a difference.
Ответитьclean made video many tests. but even 6 cores are not needed in 2023 lol
ОтветитьI have a 710
ОтветитьMan, this video aged like milk
Ответитьi have a 4 core cpu woth a 1060 for r years now and it works
ОтветитьAnd the year is 2023... say goodbye for 4/8....
ОтветитьIm rocking a 2 core
Ответить4 Cores is not still enough. Check GR:BP, AC Odyssey etc. They murder CPU's. My 10700kf (8c16t) stays consistent at 70% on all threads, at 100fps. That's going to murder an 4c8t chip.
ОтветитьStill have fx 8320 on 3,5 GHz 😅😅😅
ОтветитьSick wallpaper
Ответить4 core? Mine old pc has 2 core
ОтветитьAs long as it doesn't give you problems and enjoying your favourite games, you don't have to worry about. Plus, these 2nd and 3rd generation i7 and i5 processors are stil having life in these games and are much cheaper.
ОтветитьI’ve got a motherboard with an i5 3550 Quad core ,Quad threaded ,8GB of RAM and I installed a GTX 1050 Ti. I am using this with a 1080p monitor and I haven’t had any problems by now.
ОтветитьI was using a 4 core ryzen 3 3200g up until earlier this year and it worked just fine and ran all the games I wanted at around 1080p60 at medium settings paired with an rx 580 8gb, only ran into unplayable games with VR on Quest 2, but it could handle an older 1440p WMR headset. Only switched to a 2700X and 5700XT this year so i could play games at high settings and 90+ fps lol
ОтветитьSo, time to get that e3 1270 xeon I've been looking at 😅
ОтветитьI recently upgraded the RAM and boot drive in my 11-year-old HTPC. It's currently sporting a Core i7 3770 with 16 GB of DDR3 1600 RAM, a GTX 1050 Ti, and a cheap Mushkin SSD. It boots faster than I remember and does everyday tasks like a champ. I've run the benchmarks on it and while it's not great, it's certainly adequate for modest needs.
Ответитьthis video is useless, my 10 year old laptop manages to run blender (cpu) minecraft and i managed to learn c++ with it, truly a champ
Ответить”You don’t have to buy anything”, Thank you for the advice Linus. I have now been convicted of seventyeight accounts of grand larceny.
ОтветитьWTF, a dual sponser video?
Ответитьi hate dual core cpus... they shoudn't exist....
G
I do procedural art. I use every electron I can squeeze out of my 10+ yr old CPU. But my poor ass can't upgrade just yet.
ОтветитьStill using my Intel Pentium III 933 MhZ on my Compaq Presario after 23 years as my 3rd PC. Still runs Windows ME & I play the old titles like NFS 4 High Stakes, Rainbow Six Eagle Watch etc.
Ответитьstill running my core 2 quad laptop as a daily runner. with the addition of 16 gig ram and an ssd it still works fine. gaming on my xbox and phone mainly, yes it runs Chrysis (badly) lol. but having a dvd rom important to me. regards mark.
ОтветитьI have a i5-4210U CPU (a dual core CPU) and it is now working fine.
ОтветитьMore important than Cores is the Cache for normal gaming. I only have one Game that uses really everyone of my P-Cores and I think even my E-Cores (tested with FPS Monitor), and that is DCS World 2.8 MT. FS2020 for example only uses 4 P-Cores which is a joke!
ОтветитьIn 2023 NO!
ОтветитьSo Intel was actually right when it comes to gaming 😆
ОтветитьBefore watching Imma just go out and say it, probably yes, considering how often i need to disable SMT to get insane performance gains in modern games on my 8core 16 thread...
ОтветитьMy i5-7600k has gotten me through a lot BUT, only have 4 threads has been a struggle with some new titles. Diablo 4 seems to struggle a bit. It runs fine with low settings but its still maxing out the CPU which can cause some choppy play here and there. I also have to shut off pretty much everything in the background when playing for it to run decent. Also PUBG is unplayable on my system. By contrast my GF has a nice 8 core 18 thread AMD CPU and PUBG runs perfectly fine on her system so I assume its a CPU issue.
ОтветитьI edit all my 4k videos on a i7 7700k I found the biggest cause of lag was not the CPU but the storage device, editing everything on a M.2Nvme drive with GPU acceleration on makes it very usable so hopefully I can get a few more years out of it as it cost to much to upgrade these days...
ОтветитьI have a question. In my PC I have an i7-4790 (at 4.0 GHz), motherboard is ASUS Z97-Pro WiFi AC, 16GB DDR3 2133MHz RAM (2x8 GB), I only use the integrated graphics. I would like to know what GPU to get for this PC if any. I don't game very often, so I don't know if it is worth getting a whole new PC. I do some programming, sometimes I run a VM, from time to time I do video editing. The PC still runs very well, it can even run quite a few games (I can even run GTA5 on the lowest settings :D). I don't usually play any competitive games. I like some city builders, racing games or simulators.
I have currently use a 4k 60Hz display, and from what I understood using higher resolution makes the GPU less CPU bound.
I am just wondering what other people would do - add a GPU or build a new PC.
So if you have any advice, it would be very appreciated.
Nice video BTW, would love to see some test in 4k.
The Pentium 4 in my old Dell OptiPlex is still going strong. 😅
Ответитьi still have a 4790k in my old rig
