The reality is prices are only going to go up. I upgraded from the 2060 to the 4070ti and I don't regret my decision one bit. Skip this generation if you have to like I did the 3000 series.

i just watched this review to make me feel better about my 4070ti Gamerock build. Just about finished Rachet and Clank. I had a lot of crashes, program prompts 'Not enough VRAM'.. . Im aiming for 1440P High +High RTX @ 80FPS on this 60mhz panel, so maybe 12GB VRAM aint enough at 1440P for this game. Olso on afterburner it looks like RAM usage creeps up to 15GB+ on this 16GB system..

Ive ordered 16GB of Pro Vangence 3600 RAM, see if this helps in performance.

What's clear is that Nvidia is banking on DLSS3 to be the big selling point, but barely any studios are picking the technology up.

In short, it's on par with a 3090 and it absolutely crushes ps5 when using ps5 settings. Lol

Considering it's much faster than 3080 12gb that I almost bought last year for $799, I'd say it's a good deal. But this ain't a 4K card. Nvidia made sure of it by giving it only 12 gigs VRAM - Knowing full well RT and FG skyrocket VRAM use. They're hoping you buy this, realize its gimped when it starts stuttering due to VRAM, and then upgrade to 50 series again for another $1K USD.

but in Australia it's still one of the best choices if you want to upgrade as 3080 is $1200 and 3080ti $1400 plus while the 4070ti can be as low as $1200 for meh brands but a nice tri MSI for $1350 so the 4070ti makes sense. All cards are a ripoff here you just have to decide what is more of a ripoff lol.... the 3090 and 3090ti are still $2000 to $3000 here!!

The comparison of the 4070Ti with current gen consoles is the exact reason I am getting one. I have a Series X and play the games I already have plus Game Pass but if a game is also available on Game Pass PC for example I would rather play it there but I want a much better performance and graphics than what I would get in the Series X. On top of that I can also play Sony PS exclusives on PC via Steam. So these things for me confirm my choice is correct.

3080"s are still going for over $900. That's why i went with the 4080ti, due to the performace gap and dollar per frame.

I actually paid less for the 4070ti then I did the 3070ti as my 2070 super died and I couldn’t find a new 2070 super anywhere I paid 789$ for my 4070ti where I paid almost 900 for the 3070ti but I sold my 3070ti for 550 dollars to someone a few weeks ago the price for this card was high when it came out but I technically only paid a couple hundred dollars to upgrade. And prices weren’t just going up because technology got better you have to also take into account that inflation is a factor as well

Thanks to Nvida's price hike, I'm switching back to AMD after so many years. 6800 xt is 90% as good, but 4070ti is 50% more expensive. GG Nvida.

GPU pricing has been insane lately. I started gaming (in PC) in 2015 and I got a 960 for $220 back then. It wasn't the fastest, but it was fine for my 1600p monitor. Back then the Titans were King, and they were priced accordingly. Absolute insane prices. But with a name like TITAN, you knew it was meant only for rich enthusiasts, actual professionals using them as cheaper alternatives to Teslas and Quadros, and people who just want to have the best of the best, no matter the cost.

In my personal opinion, Nvidia has a problem with their marketing. The xx90 level cards have come to replace the Titans in gaming performance and price, while not actually being suitable for professionals the same way the Titans were.

Back in 2015 a GTX Titan X was $999. Adjusted for inflation that is $1230 in today's money. It is pretty childish to expect a company to have generational improvements while not having a price hike, specially since the manufacturing difficulties of reducing die size are not insignificant.

Comparing flagships then, the Titan X for $1230 against the 4090 for $1600, it is not a huge price difference. Sure, it sucks for most people, but it also doesn't seem unjustified.

But back to what is, in my opinion, the issue that Nvidia has with these new cards, having the xx90 cards be named and marketed as part of the regular gaming lineup is what causes the perception that Nvidia is a greedy, evil corporation.

The 4090 being marketed as the absolute best thing that a gamer could have is problematic, as the vast majority of gamers will now look up at the 4090 as something they should strive to achieve. A view that then clashes with the astronomic price.

I personally think that Nvidia should return to clearly marketing the xx90 level cards as unobtanium. Afterwards increasing or promoting their other cards in name as well.

If the 4080 was named 4080 Ti instead, and the 4070 Ti named the 4080, suddenly $800 for a 4080 level card, the second best "purely gaming" card, doesn't seem so unreasonable.

Sure, I would much prefer that the 4070 Ti was priced at $500, but that also seems impossible.

Frankly, there is also the fact that gaming components are incredibly powerful now too. The public perception has changed too much on what seems like correct perfomance. Gamers want higher resolutions than 1080p, they want higher framerates than 60Hz, while also heavily increasing the visual fidelity and animation quality of games. And current hardware can deliver that.

But it wasn't too long ago that hitting 60 fps on 1080p was considered good performance. At least that is what I wanted from my 960 back in 2015. Nowadays 1080p60 is the bare minimum to be considered playable for a lot of people.

Is it that we are just too greedy?

It seems unreasonable to expect companies to give us all of those improvements while maintaining the same prices we paid years ago.

It also seems unreasonable from hardware manufacturers to expect regular people to be able to pay out $800 for a gaming device. Most people I know would never pay that much for a rapid devaluating hobby peripheral.

At least that is my opinion. We, the gamers, want too much from corporations, while corporations want to squeeze as much money as they can from us. And they'll get it. What is the alternative? Read a book? Pffff.

I mean I bought a 4070 ti for 799.99 on Amazon. There are still tons on Amazon for suggested retail price too. Not only is that MSRP but it also happens to be a board partner card with better cooling, VRMs/Power Limit, fans, and thermals. Yea 800 is a lot but it’s basically a 3090 ti for 800 dollars that is more power efficient and has better Raytracing plus access to DLSS 3.0. Good enough for me and pairs with my Ryzen 7700X well to make a great 1440P gaming experience on whatever I want to play. The drivers on the 30 series cards are also mature where as the 40 series ones are brand new. Given time and updates for the drivers on the 4070 ti performance will only improve and mine overclocked quite well. Compared to my RTX 3070 ti scores and benchmarks I got nearly a 50% uplift in performance. Sold my 3070 ti for 500 so I was out 300 for a 50% upgrade, access to new tech, new features, and a more power efficient card. No complaints from me. I hate seeing tests done in 4K at this price point. It’s utterly useless. Hardly anyone plays at 4k on PC and the ones that do are not looking at the 4070 ti as an option.

I genuinely dont understand why so many people are so pissed about the 4070ti prices when it's literally vastly better price for performance than most if not all of the 30 series cards and has less power draw. Its stronger than a 3090 but you can find them for cheaper than a 3080 if you're willing to wait a little bit? What's the problem

I have recently upgraded my old 6700k + 1070 with new 7700x + RTX4070ti and oh boy... My motivation was to achieve stable 140fps in 1440p League of Legends. Old system had frames drops from 140fps to 45-55fps during teamfights. Now it is super stable. Cant be more happy, and outcome is phenomenal. Cost aside, coming from 1xxx era to 4xxx is huge leap forward. My honest recommendation.

Internet drama are funny. It's sure help to get the views high and they are a good subject study for the bandwagon bias. Honestly, I don't get the fuss. You probably don't need a 40xx anyway. Even the most recent games run very fine on a 30xx. Games are at last 2 gen back because they have to be playable for as much people as possible.

besides the 4090 none of the available cards are 4K/RT/60 future-proof which would be the minimum for me to upgrade. at these absurd price-points i happily stick with my ps5 and my qhd pc with an 5800x/2060 for another 2-3 years until the next console generation arrives. power consumption is becoming more and more relevant, so maybe selling my 2060 for an 6800xt for 500EUR could be a valid mid-gen upgrade. but probably not, pc-gaming is just too boring at the moment.

honestly, i havent played any game made in the last 3 years for longer than a few hours anyway. all the games i play run just fine on older tech, and the games themselves are better than the crap releasing now, really.

this would be a golden-era for used GPUs...unfortunately, mining killed that...even if its not happening like it was, it killed millions of good GPUs.

No one wants to admit it, but PC gaming is a dying industry. That's why prices are so high. I give it 10-15 years before Nvidia says "Its been fun, but were discontinuing new consumer GPUs. Get Geforce Now." AMD would follow suit soon after with a competitive service. Only thing you'd buy will be "legacy" products meant for Office PCs. Cloud computing is the future. On-prem compute is dying.
