His white of the eyes turned yellow. Seems he got serious liver damage. Stop drinking, stop smoking, and do exercise a little bit. Your body is yours.

'...and we need it, for Dutch courage..,' no we don't, it is disturbing when the media propagate the myth. For many socialising is the pub.
During lockdown I continued socialising through zoom in various groups I was involved with.
At the end of the meeting we had a drink. On a couple of occasions I opened another beer only for people to begin leaving. I was left with a bottle of beer that I didn't even want and binned it.
Since lockdown I hardly ever drink and have found other means than alcohol to enjoy myself.

I enjoy 2 to 3 glasses of wine a day with supper. My blood work always come back perfectly normal. I also workout 5 days a week and practice intermittent fasting. Wine is one of my favourite pleasures in life.

The jaundice is insane to see on video, you'd think the video isn't colour corrected but it's just the liver dysfunction.

35 units a week is not a casual drinker. That's 2.5x the recommended guidelines not including what sounded like a lot of binge drinking in his twenties. I think most people would think of casual drinking as meaning a glass of wine a day, maybe two sometimes, which would be only about 15 a week.

There's a load of psychology behind this. Life is stressful. Having a few drinks is a distraction for it all. Multiply that with having fun with your mates creates an environment where you don't want to admit there's anything wrong. People enjoy it. Over time it wraps itself around you and you don't know anything else. You may feel a little rough in the morning but it's nothing you can't get over with a few coffee's. You're no different than most people you know. Maybe you know that 'one guy' who 'really' drinks too much, passing out legless all the time. You use this as a measure against yourself, to tell yourself you're not the one with the problem. You just have a few to unwind, to sleep well.

This was me. Then I realized I couldn't just go to sleep without having a few....hard to admit that it's become a problem. Once you do...I started really wondering about my liver - especially as I'm now 52. I'm now 29 days without a drop...plan on that for a while.

"Not an alcoholic" - drinks everyday. If you drink out of habit, you're an alcoholic. I don’t understand why they say people dying from alcohol related liver diseases aren't alcoholics.

Unless you have some serious genetic disease, you're not getting a level of liver disease so severe that you have jaundice and are dying from binge drinking in your 20s and steady drinking in your 30s. I know people who have drsnk for decades and can easily drink three bottles of wine a day and aren't this bad. Alcohol is severely damaging, but to get to this stage you have to really push it as far as it goes for many decades. Either this guy has some congenital problem or he has been drinking severely more heavily than he states, or some other drugs have destroyed his liver also.

Unless you have some underlying problem, somebody is lying about having 2 beers a night & alcoholic liver disease at 43. It's possible he could have NAFLD combined with ALD, where a combination of excess sugar & alcohol.
The idea that there is suddenly an epidemic of men in their early 40's suddenly getting ALD from 2 beers a night is ridiculous.

We should stop judging. You’re just lucky not to have an addictive personality. It’s not you being superior. I don’t like the taste of alcohol, but I smoked a lot but gave that up - hard, hard.
