I wasn’t old enough to have this or AOL but I remember these sounds vividly. Too bad they could never have still kept this around in an app form, same with the messaging features for AOL. If anyone wants to relive these sounds they actually have ringtones available for the Nudge and New Message ones on the iTunes Store.

msn messenger notifications gives me smiles. microsoft teams gives me a migraine.

A local restaurant was using the new message sound as its order ready sound - every time it went off, I was getting flashbacks 😂

The "new message" sound still causes a rush of dopamine and a bit of andrenaline to run through my body

So, Microsoft apparently reused the startup and message dialog sounds from the Rock n Roll desktop theme that came with Plus! 98 for Windows Live Messenger. I never knew that. Though, that was mainly because I never used MSN Messenger back in the day and never knew anyone else who used it. My mom mainly used Yahoo! Messenger and my grandma used to use ICQ and idk if she ever used AIM since she used AOL at the time until maybe the mid 2000s.

R.I.P to this masterpiece now we are welcoming Messenger
