I'm laughing by myself watching this in the middle of the night. I'm dead with the subtitles, too. But all joking aside, I can tell you're a real one with compassion. Good vibe.

The reason a lot of Asians are surprised when a westerner eats their food is that a lot, A LOT, of westerners want western food when travelling. Some demand it. Same with language in many countries. English speakers are notorious for being mono-lingual and not bothering to learn the local language, so it's a great compliment when you do, especially in poorer countries. When I lived in India I had an experience in a place where tourists did not frequent. It was in South India so my Hindi did not much good and I ended up in a backstreet restaurant where no one spoke Hindi or English, which is usually where you get the best authentic food anyway. I was stared at a lot which I was used to in non touristy areas. When I got my thali, I was conspicuously handed a spoon and the funniest thing happened. Almost everyone in the small restaurant stopped eating and looked at me, maybe wondering how a person who is too dimwitted to use their hands properly, eats their food. I put the spoon down and picked up some rice and curry with my fingers and ate it. There were looks of approval all round and everybody got on with their eating. I felt a little pride in myself that day. It doesn't take much to give people a little joy. Just gratitude, respecting and being open to, local customs, and knowing how to be humble does the trick quite often when travelling.

Hammer and sickle is indeed a hate symbol banned by many countries. Don't feel so bad, it should be treated like the swastika or rebel flag but for some reason gets a pass.

A small suggestion: Try to communicate through translation software to avoid many misunderstandings.

Most Chinese people, especially middle-aged and elderly people, do not understand English at all.
Young people, such as the Chinese after the 1980s, may have studied in primary school or middle school, but most of them cannot communicate in spoken English.
However, people can still understand simple words such as "YES", "NO", "GOOD", "OK", "THANKS" and "HELLO".

Chinese people have only been learning English for a few decades. Even though I have a master's degree, I still have to use translation software to post this comment to prevent my poor English from causing misunderstandings.

So, if you don’t know what the other person is talking about, try not to habitually reply with words such as YES.
For example, when you take a taxi, the driver is actually asking you if you want to go to a certain place, and you habitually answer YES, if the driver does not correctly understand your destination, he may take you to the wrong place.

Most signs in big cities, such as subways, etc. should have English signs.
In fact, this was only added after the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing to adapt to international standards.
Some smaller cities are rarely visited by foreigners, so there may be no English translation at all.
Try to use photo translation and voice translation software, so that the journey will be much smoother.
Have a nice journey ;)

Before EVs became popular, taxis in some regions of China used CNG as fuel. There is an expectation that there will eventually be a complete shift to electric power. At present these CNG taxis have not been phased out yet.
