Appleton 12
ОтветитьI’m a big fan of Doorly’s 12. Under $30 US. The other one I tried is the Appleton 12. It’s $45 US. I prefer the Doorly’s.
ОтветитьSteve, have you tried The R.L. Seal's 12 46%ABV. ? For some or other reason this one is hard to find anywhere and I just can't understand why. Maybe down to some limited release? My top so far is R.L. Seal's 10 yo and i recon the 12yo version might be a bit too interesting.
ОтветитьI love Foursquare!
ОтветитьPrime day bargain. Flor 12 for 25 quid.... 😮
ОтветитьVery nice video! Here’s my list (I’m more of a bourbon and blended rum drinker)
1. Appleton 12
2. El Dorado 12
3. Plantation XO
4. Doorly 12
5. Flor De Cana 12
N/A Ron Cubay (Don’t get Cuban rums)
Ilove the Flor decaña12 yo.The Appleton Estate12 y o,is a close second.
The y o yo is also very nice. Thank you for the video,Steve
Great information, keep up the good work!👍
ОтветитьI have a bottle of Flor De Cana 12 from a few years ago that was maybe half full. I decided I need to get back to using it, so I tried sipping it first but wasn't really on board. Felt very muted compared to other rums, and I was getting a chocolately note. I decided to use it as a mixer now and have been enjoying it both in rum and cokes as well as rum and pineapple. For the price, I'm probably going to stick with Flor De Cana 7. The rest of these (at least the ones I can get here in the US) are all excellent sippers!
ОтветитьNewbie here, and I glad Ive came across this vid. Waiting to get my eldorado 15 and sip along with my cigars...lol Very informative! Tnx a lot for the infos! Cheers 🥂🥂 (btw, here in country, I only have few options, but I have the chance to by the flor de cana 25....a bit pricey...any output about the flor the cana 25? Worth the money?) Tnx again
ОтветитьAnother top video Steve
ОтветитьThanks a lot Steve, for your educational and cognitive reviews) I'm a newbie to rum but having been a deep rooted whisky drinker for years (I'm 62), seem to be aquiring the real taste for decent sipping rums. But my pallate is rather on the drier side than on the sickly sweet side. I can't say i've tried loads of rum but i've already started collecing that "stuff" in my " wheel house")))By now i've already got 5 various rums-Plantation X0 (even on the drier side , i liked it a lot), Matusalem 23, 15, Viejo de Caldas 15, Havana Club Seleccion de Maesro Barrel Proof (45%ABV), and my latest aсquisition was Dillon XO (9y.o) agricole from Martinique. The only rum i've disliked in my "rum journey" was "Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva'(turned out way way too sweet for me). Prices in Moscow(Russia) are quite resonable for some (40 dollars on sale for Plantation X0 and 55 for Matusalem 23 in one of a liquor store) and unreasonable for others (Doorly's 12 at 70 bucks,)but yet others disappeared at all (such as Appleton Estate 12) as to Dillon XO agricole- around 40 bucks. Thanks again for your "sweetshop labour" If you've tried any of the listed above, i wonder what you"ve liked except for "Plantation" XO. Cheers!
ОтветитьIm a whisky drinker looking for some starter sipping Rums. Sounds like the Flor de Caña 12 is a good all rounder for the price.
Where would go start with for a reasonably priced cask strength rum?
I'm still new at all of this. I really like Doorly's 12 but now I want to try the Appleton 12 and Flor De Cana 12 to compare. Both of those are easily available in Denver.
ОтветитьWhats your proportion in a rum & coke?...2 to 1? 3 to 1? 4 to 1?. Salud🍻🇲🇽
ОтветитьFlor de Cana is my go-to rum mate! I've never tried Ron Cubay rum.
ОтветитьHi Steve, I am a newbie, which sugar free ron, stong mit smooth, would yoy recommend? I tried Flor de Cana 12 years, nice, bit a bit todo smooth in my Opinion, thanks!
ОтветитьHello Steve. I have been watching this channel with increasing interest. As a Whiskey / Bourbon drinker, I have a growing interest in Rum as a diversified path toward wider taste notes other than caramel and vanilla. I have tried Diplomatico, Smith & Cross and a few others and found them all too sweet. Can you recommend three brands in the £40 to £60 range, that can be found readily available (Whiskey Exchange, Master of Malt etc.), that you would rank as THE LEAST SWEET. I would appreciate your input here Steve.
ОтветитьI would like to have seen these ranked as an old fashioned.
ОтветитьA masterpiece
ОтветитьYou had it on the bar Flordecana12
ОтветитьThat's so funny. Flor is my go to rum and coke! It really does pair so well together.
ОтветитьPlantation XO is my go to ❤.
ОтветитьQUESTION: Your rum collection is simply immaculate. Which mollasses-based aged sipping rum is your favorite above 50 pounds?
ОтветитьThe Real McCoy 5 Year Distiller's Proof Single Blended Rum satisfied my palate perfectly!
ОтветитьLoved the Appleton 12 year "Rare Blend" and thought it was close to the 21 year for a quarter of the price!, but I'm really disappointed by the "Rare Casks".
ОтветитьFavourite 12yr old atm would be Doorleys 🥃🥃🥃
ОтветитьNice break down! I understand you liked them all and they're unique in their own way but there really should've been a winner. 😁Cheers
ОтветитьI tried the 8 year Bacoo rum and really liked it. Was looking at the 12year to try but thanks for this video.
Ответить12yrs Dorleys
ОтветитьHey mate, what are those little thingys next to your head with the upside down plantation logo on it? This is killing me for so Long i have to know 😅
Ответить12 YO is a great age range
I'd also like to cheat and sneak in a 10 YO, the RL seale bottle :P
If I'm not gonna cheat I would probably go ED12, though FDC12 is also very nice, and I actually find the ED12 to be fairly fruity, maybe more dried fruits and more in the back, but its undeniably there for me through the whole experience, ED12 was my favorite rum for a while even! It makes a banging rum and coke/cuba libre! (please compare the rum and coke with the cuba libre, is the lime worth it? I vote YES! unless you are using spiced rum, then it get in the way!)
I'm subscribed because you know your shhh! Cheers 🧉!
ОтветитьWhy did you say Angostura is loosely a 12 year old?
ОтветитьI came from whisky which explains why el Dorado 12 and Doorlys 14 are my favourite rums.
Ответить. . . Lovely video: u made the comparison SO exciting ! many thx . . . i am ASTOUNDED and AMZED u could pick out that MUCH flavours once mixed in coke, dak, ....
ОтветитьOf everything I'm craving during my hiatus, it's sipping Appelton 12 year!
ОтветитьAppleton 12 YO – smells exactly like the Dunder in the Distillery in Jamaica, therefore reminds me to a nice visit at Appleton Estate
ОтветитьI haven't tried Cubay orDoorly's, so ED12 is definitely my favorite and I'm not a whiskey lover/drinker, but I do love the woody notes, either neat or with coke, that's my 100% go to Rum.
ОтветитьNice to see some more affordable sipping rums get their due.
ОтветитьInteresting video I am a sipping rum man rather than cocktail of these Flur De Canna and Cobay would be my stand out picks. El Darado 15 is much better than the 12. I really don't enjoy Plantation, and not a massive fan of Appelton. But it's all a matter of mood and palate.
Think you should have included an aged acricole
Hey steve,..do u know DON PAPA RUM?i love it,..regards,..
ОтветитьThe timing on this video was perfect! Considering a few bottles in the $50 range to get myself for my birthday and I kept coming back to the plantation XO. Thank you for making this even easier for me!
ОтветитьAnother awesome video Steve. I like the way you organized the rum in this one. Sweet to woody. What's good in a daq. What's good in a Rum and Coke. Might have to check out the Flor De Cana. You didn't put it in the "woody" end of the spectrum.
I'll have to try Plantation XO in a daq. Didn't think to try that. I have tried Appleton 12 in a daq. Couldn't make it work for some reason.
First time viewer, don’t comment much but had to!! Excellent video and explanation of flavors etc.
ОтветитьFrom this range of rums, the El Dorado was my first rum, then found the plantation XO and it's been my go to. Managed to pick up the flor de Cana in an Amazon seal recently for £19 haven't had chance to taste it yet but really looking forward to it. Got to taste the Appleton once but my palate wasn't ready for the funk so need try it again now I've had more experience with rum
ОтветитьNo Cuban?
ОтветитьI can't decide..... the palate changes depending of daily circumstances as well as the mood you are in. Generally speaking I would choose Doorly's 12 since my bottle is long gone. but honestly I also have El Dorado 12, Appleton State 12, Plantation XO on my shelf, and I am really glad I do. I have tried Flor de Cana 12 before but I still need to buy me a bottle of it. Just as Doorly's and Real McCoy, Foursquare also produces a bottle call "R.L Seale's 12 Year Old Barbados Rum"
ОтветитьI love the plantation XO. But out of the line up, it’s the only one I’ve had. Hopefully I’ll get the chance to try some of the others.
