26lbs Overweight Cat Starts Weight Loss Journey | Bondi Vet

This cat is a Ragdoll. I have a mix of one.

He's an easy keeper, and he inhales his meal. He also is a low-energy cat. This means he's not climbing to the top of a tree, he'd rather lay at the bottom and watch you climb it.

I used to feed him dry food standing, but then he stopped eating and we had a real scare with him.

So we put him on a diet, he's given a diet of dry food and the measured amount of wet food that he gets twice a day.

He also howls incessantly two hours before his meals for food. I learned to ignore it except for some treats when he's quiet. It has had him lose to a healthy weight and maintain it.

It's hard, but food-oriented cats need to have a strict feeding schedule and a balanced diet.

My stomach turns when I see this so-called "love" while it is just selfishness and ignorance.

Dogs have owners, cats have staff. Cats rule!

People are shaming the owner and in this case it does seem like she’s caused it but I had a cat with obesity issues his whole life. He ate a weight control cat food his whole life. He never got wet food and only got treats occasionally. The worst thing he ate was tuna which he only got once a month. And he was 23 pounds most his life. Granted he was also just a large cat. Some animals just like people just tend to weigh more.

She comes across as a bit whacky (though in a nice way). I don't doubt she loves the cat - and the fact that she has taken him to the vet shows she must care about his wellbeing - but she isn't being fair to him letting him get to that size.

She seriously needs a larger cat carrier.

She the owner. Is daffy unbalanced. I am agitated just to hear her speak. So ridiculous. That she believes in what she was doing for her cat was not noticeable.. let me stuff her with food.. 🤨she needs some serious counseling..😒😵‍💫

Ziggy is really cute ... but, wow, his little sister is spectacular. Prettiest ragdoll ever.

My cats love food but they also work well with the routine of feedings. They don't really beg and know that it's not time to eat until my husband or I announce it. (They do get treats as rewards but not a lot.) I definitely relate to Rosalie's obsession with her cats though, to a much lesser extent.

Getting an adult cat to change its eating habits and be more active is so bloody hard. They want what they want and move when they feel like it, unlike dogs, who will at least try to please.

Great idea of the vet to put the food on top of the cat tower/condo, so that the cat has to work to get to the food. Tough love--much love.

I used to over fed my cat, she's so over weight. Dr told me my cat will get diebetic if I can't be strict with her. Now my cat had a diebetic and is not good.

It’s sick and sadistic to over feed pets! Lunatics who do that need to be jailed and barred from ever owning pets!

I have 3 dogs and a cat. I watch their weight regularly. Mainly for their health, also for my financial health.

She's abusing the poor cat.

Cats need exercise and proper nutrion. Dry food should be put in food puzzels only. Low carb/high protein wet food unless directed by a Vet.

Those deep, narrow bowls aren’t recommended for cats due to overstimulation of their whiskers when they hit the sides.

As a vet tech of 20 years, ppl still believe that cats need to eat 24 hours a day. Two meals a day, every 12 hours, that's all they need! Wet food is better than dry food. It's more water so they stay hydrated. Dry food also increases the chance of urinary blockage and constipation.

We used to have a food obsessed cat and a cat who liked to eat a few bites every hour. It took a long time to figure out a way to ensure both cats would eat properly. This was prior to those fancy feeding bowls that open to a specific cats collars.

Very well done Dr. Chris. Ziggy is not your friend, and his owner tests your gracious patience. It's going to take all the coaching/counselling skills that you've got to get this family to meet their prescribed treatment. Tough love indeed.😂😇
