My absolute favorite part of basic training in 04 was the hard ass DSs that had combat patches. In those days nobody had them. I found out halfway through AIT that I would end up in Iraq within months. These cadences inflated a level of motivation today’s joes will never understand. The kind of energy that made you want to slam into a brick wall over and over. The pride, drive and determination were unmatched by today’s folks. They are unfortunately hindered by politics and woke constraints

Thinking back to Navy boot camp in a fat division, that's what they called us.... we were either fat or couldn't speak english.

We'd march around between our appointments attacking.

Marching with a good cadence is something indescribable. We had some commands to make us march around them to join them from the flank. Our RDC was a submariner, so we did silent marching. "To the winds. MARCH." and I forget the next command, but we'd end up in their flank before double timing around ahead. When everyone was marching right, you're going head on 80 vs 80 with everyone turning out 1 step away from a head on collision.
