The Second World War was a war waged not just by generals and frontline soldiers. It was fought also by scientists, engineers and inventors. In March 1939, German troops marched into Czechoslovakia. Ostensibly, this was part of the Anschluss that reunited German nationals to the Fatherland; but Adolf Hitler had far more sinister motives than that. He wanted the Skoda Works, one of the largest arms factories in Europe. His right-hand-man, Hermann Göring, put his own brother Albert in charge of the factory. It was one of the worst decisions he ever made, because Albert: the ‘Good Nazi’, would use his position to not only help free Jews, but sabotage the Nazi war effort.
