Orlov isn’t a rental. The Bs will lose two top centers if they win it all. Wouldn’t you go out on top? That will give them cap space to sign Orlov.

I have to give Sweeney credit, he did an excellent job. Acquired 2 players that can step in and contribute, he was able to trade Craig Smith and his $3+ million salary, and had both Washington (50%) and Minnesota (25%) each eat salary for each player which resulted in the Bruins actually freeing up $600k in cap space. He was able to do this without having to disrupt the current roster or give up any of the limited prospects the B's have in their system.

bRuins win the trade, because they're ready to win the cup at this point. A Massachusetts team is fed with good players, something we've already seen 16 years ago in another top league

As a life-long fan of the Bruins (over 3 decades), I like this trade. I HATED Hathaway, but I'm thrilled he's a Bruin. I really hope Sweenius can retain one, if not both, of these guys for future seasons.

So the Leafs continue to ignore its defense woes and its goalie needs while Taveras is now being pencilled in as its shutdown center (totally laughable) ... meanwhile the Bruins focus on tightening up it lineup for a long playoff run.

In short term, definitively Bruins, in long term? Capitals. Lets not forget that also Bruins going to need draft picks for first and second round. Because David Krejci mostl likely playing his last season not only in NHL but also in whole career, same goes for Bergeron. Whole organization going to be rebuilded and if they failed to reach Stanley Cup this season, its going to be to big price. Also there is no certainty that they will re-sign Orlov, since Bruins still did not re-signed Pastrnak.

Hey Now! The Bruins are a force! A slugfest vs the Keaken. 6-5 road win in a back and forth battle throughout! Swayman letting in 5 goals was A okay as he made some incredible saves to keep the B’s in a position to pull out the win!!! Pasta keeps rolling

Great deal. Bruins get their guys without selling the farm and the Caps make a smart business decision and recoup assets in a tough market. It’s always the guys we hated the most that end up making the perfect Bruins 😂. The fans will love these guys and we’ll take good care of em, can’t wait to see them in the spoked B!

Hall/Zacha/DeBrusk - Coyle/Zacha - Frederic/Foligno
Foligno/Greer/Frederic - Nosek/Foligno /Frederic - Hathaway/Foligno/Frederic

Orlov/Grzelyck/Lindholm - McAvoy
Lindholm/Orlov/Grzelyck- Carlo/Orlov

Swayman

My point: Your lineup flexibility is absolutely silly.

It’s simple if the Bruins win the Cup with the their acquired rentals, then they won the trade. If the Bruins fall short of the Cup, the Caps won the trade acquiring future draft picks adding to the Caps getting two 1st round picks this coming draft and clearing up cap space to potentially acquire Chychrun. If that’s the case the Caps will definitely have to give up one of their 1sts to make a deal for Chychrun.

Bruins basically got Hathaway free.

They gained a ton of toughness for the playoffs. Prior to this trade I feel they were behind Carolina if they had to play them in a 7 game series. And yes both Hathaway and Orlov fit the Boston system perfectly

The bruins and if anyone says otherwise you don't watch the caps play. At least not right now. Sure we've just beat the rangers but the lack of youth that we play with. To get draft picks for two big players in our team... Is shocking, keep hearing oh we got a bruins first pick. That's great where are the bruins going to finish this year, exactly...

As a Caps fan it's a necessary move and I hope there's more moves like it with the deadline coming.
The team desperately needs either a rebuild or atleast a big shake up if they're going to be back amongst the top tier teams in the league and that begins with young talent and draft picks. They can pick up prospects and draft picks now while some of their older players still have value, I hope they take advantage.

Bruins win. A bird in the hand... known entities. Rather bet on roster players over draft pick wannabes that teams have to toilet train for 2+ years.

B's might be the only team where the GM and president are both hockey players.

Sweeney's finally getting the respect he deserves. He's a competitor-if he doesn't get a play right, he adjusts until he gets it right.

And he trusts the players' voices and vision.
Because he was one.
