This sculpture is an imaginary portrait of Chryses, a Trojan priest of Greek antiquity. It is dramatic and full of emotion. A companion piece in the Louvre, representing the mythical princess Iphigenia, is the very opposite. Her expression is calm, with a classical dignity. The sculptor Slodtz worked for many years in Rome, where he acquired the nickname Michel-Ange, i.e. Michelangelo.
