Why you NEED to turn off Microsoft Start in Windows 11

That is the widgets not the start menu

Tell me, is there a NEWS APP that isn't full of Ai generated trash or scam?

I always avoid these apps and sites, mey it be from Microsoft, Google, apple or whatever.

Does Portmaster and ControlD play nice together?

When Win11 first hit here in Australia it checked my desktop and laptop for compatibility. The desktop failed, even though it was only a year or two old, Ryzen 7 chip, 16Gb ram. But Win11 said there was something in there that disqualified it. The Dell XPS13 laptop was OK. But I wasn't going to have two different systems so I'm still on Win10. Win11 still wants to me update and gives me reminders every few months. But the more I hear about Win11 the less inclined I am to go for it.

I don't like that most sites and whatnot that offer "curated" info are little more than ad streams and I don't like that that includes email inboxes.

All the current devs are just so bad.

The only thing Ms does is add duplicate unremovable gigantic buttons that take an an entire row and have like save, print, send to outlook buttons.

Bottom line is nobody truly polices their platforms and/or websites. This is not only true of the big tech platforms but also smaller websites that have advertising. They all make money off the advertising revenue that garbage brings in. What this person is saying is not only true but what nobody is talking about is that because all of the files including the graphics files for the ads are ever scanned for malware at all. They are all being passed around the internet and pushed through/provided by 3rd, 4th, 5th etc... party ad companies and nobody bothers to scan anything to see what might be embedded into any of the files that might do malicious activities including drive-by installs, redirects, viruses etc....They all also push all those fraudulent click bait animated graphics pushing illegitimate products they fraudulently use the images of public figures to push, or they use click bait titles indicating scandal or tragedy or some other type of BS.

I am the IT spec for a unit of about 50 people, we have a file server and thats about it and lots of random client stuff. Anyway, what is the #1 and #2 thing I need to make sure I am doing in this day and age. Sitting here wondering why I can't find that settings panel, realized I turned widgets TF off ages ago, & also don't log into Windows with a MS account... I used to joke & say Window was the most successful & prolific computer virus ever... Now I'm less sure it's a joke

I personally think one should Turn Off Everything from Microsoft, or use it, if he/she gets it paid versions for free, like me. I will never ever pay even a 1 Cent for Microsoft. Maybe for LinkedIn only.
1) WIndows - became a crap living its own life. No privacy, no control. Autoupdates without asking. It just lives like a cat. You do not have any control. You change configurations, it comes back.
2) OneDrive - slow, and useless. Worst cloud solution for end-user. And that is not even free.
3) Office - another crap from Microsoft. Different versions for different OS has different functionality. This is done to force you into Windows. And this is Not a Free product. You pay money, but get less on other platforms, even though they claim they support other platforms. I am having always issues due to this case.
4) Browser - I am not going to comment that. You all now that edge is a crap as ie.
5) LinkedIn - it used to be a good platform, but these days it is a crap like facebook.
6) Xbox - dead platform with no games. Microsoft buys a lot of companies, but cannot produce anything good. Good platform without games.
7) Mobile - as good as dead. Android just killed it.

Funny is not it? Everything Microsoft buys, becomes crap. Exactly like Facebook. Not sure how do they achieve it.

Thank you for doing this video. I sell computers and we often look at the windows 11 start page and click into links. There is TONS of scam sites linked that look like professional sites. I cannot believe Microsoft has allowed this to continue. They virtually shove windows 11 down your throat and wonder why people keep saying no to it and staying on windows 10. From the stuff I see daily in the links I would say there are tons of innocent people who trust Microsoft that are likely to get scammed. I will stick to win 10 and I am also trying Linux Mint to see if I can live with it

This problem can happen to anyone that uses the MSN website, regardless of the version of Windows. The site aggregates news articles from various reputable sources, but displays a large amount of adverts disguised to look like news. My 85 year old mum clicked on one of those, and got a fake AV message that went full screen, scaring her to death. Fortunately, through remote access, I fixed that pretty quickly. Then I changed her DNS to Quad9, hopefully to block other malicious stuff - she wont stop using MSN.
