Yep. .Billy added a lot to the Skynyrd sound but the only one that gets less credit is Leon... or maybe Bob... or Arty

IMHO the recordings they made there in 72 were better than the versions of the same songs recorded later. Pure raw Skynyrd

I've watched the documentary of Muscle Shoals multiple times over. I highly recommend that you watch it as well!!
This is one of my most favorite part of that documentary as I was blown away and amazed that
Billy Powell, the roadie of all positions, was The Man that put Lynyrd Skynyrd on the map.
The next time anyone yells
"Play" "Freebird!!" ",..
I'll play it!!
