My husband and are both 60 and we have 500k in the stock market, for a year now, Fidelity has been managing our portfolio for the last but we have lost thousands! Fidelity has our portfolio diversified with many, many different funds and none have gained any significant increase, and we still have to pay a management fee! So my thoughts are that maybe we should relinquish Fidelity from managing our portfolio and establishing our own portfolio with the funds you have recommended. I feel like we've lost huge ground this year. Or is this happening to everyone because of the current economic crisis and should we ride it out with Fidelity managing our money. Side note, we do have several CD's and a high earning MM and rental property generating positive cash flow. No debits.

Have you taken into account the rebalancing when comparing the numbers?

Hello! Do you gave a HSA? Also, after I max out my Roth IRA, should I invest in my traditional brokerage next or max out HSA? If I don’t need my HSA for medical reasons, can I get my money?

Very educative video, Every investment comes with a certain level of risk, but people still choose to invest and achieve success. It is important to adopt an outward-looking approach if you want to be successful.

I like your content. the comparison you made is real and I think more people should be analyzing their paths similar to the way you presented your case. In addition, I think people need to know that, by investing in a broad spectrum of US stocks (VTI), they will have a built-in international portfolio. A large number of the largest US companies have an international reach and that's because those companies are succeeding in the international markets. Also, VTI has a 1.5% + yield as well as a positive ytd return. This covers all the arguments made for the 3 fund portfolio.
Thanks for your insight. Cheers

I started investing in the stock market because of dividends. What matters, in my opinion, It implies that you can pass that on to your children, giving them a head start in life. I've invested over $600k in dividend stocks over the years; I continue to buy more today.

In the past, I could see a strong argument for specifically allocating a portion of your portfolio to non-US companies. But now, the entire globe is heavily correlated with the US economy. I am not sure if non-US allocation is necessary anymore since many US companies are internatinal and global trade has reached the place it is today.

Why BND and not VMFXX which returns over 5% (5.3% as of now). VMFXX is made of t-bills (government treasuries)…I know it is not an ETF but much safer and a sure >5% increase of your money. Personally I do VOO and VMFXX - the later for the money I may need in the near future (1-4 yrs horizon).
