Telegram has been successful based on lies. It's definitely not as private as they claim it is, it's not e-2-e encrypted by default, they also had claimed that all features would always be free and now they have literally limited features that were free and now it's paid. I'm pretty sure durov will start selling private user data to the arabs... That is if he's not already doing that. (as he himself claimed he spends hundreds of millions of dollars a year on server costs, but then again he only had around 300 mil from his vk share) so that's definitely another lie or something fishy is going on behind the scenes

You are absolutely correct about everything you say. Yes, Telegram is not user-to-user encrypted outside of secret chats. But don't be fooled by WhatsApp (Meta) who says that all their chats are "end-to-end encrypted", that does not necessarily mean that their chats are user-to-user encrypted!

A FACT is that Telegram developers openly say this but WhatsApp uses terminology to fool its users! As you say: Facebook can read your messages at their servers which means all messages are intercepted by their servers and re-transmitted to the recipient just like Telegram (excluding secret chats) but the difference is how open they are about it to their users.

I use telegram as it's one less American app on my phone amongst the mighty android/Google that enables the USA to collect data from citizens around the world. And the constant paranoia that the USA has on any non American app is laughable given that aside from the active proven collection of data from citizens worldwide from Google, Facebook, bing, these apps like telegram have the right like any platform to monitor activity that could be criminal. If they want to listen in on a conversation of mine, I'm not bothered, they can join in for all I care. If you want privacy don't use apps, buy stamps and write a letter.
