When I was young kid I thought this was really about a car. As I grew older, I learned it was not about a car but a dream to escape those forces that keep us from reaching our full potential.

One of my fondest moments of high school was my psychology teacher playing this on one of the first days. We all said different points of interest and it was so interesting how we interpreted her words from our perspective. Thank you Tracy and Mr Ayers

Bought a bootleg tape of Tracy Chapman's first album as a Marine stationed in Pohang Korea in 88. She Got me through some cold lonely nights :) Shout out to Capt. Biggs who borrowed the tape for a few days and actually returned it. Ran into that same Captain in Iraq few years later who was a liaison officer for the Red Cross. He found me in the desert because my mom hadn't heard from me in awhile and need to know i was still alive...Moms! :) Thank you sir!

My ex Jade this was her song she wanted to leave our home town and make something of ourselves but it never happened. I moved and had kids and we tried a second time many years later and again it didn't work out. But my heart will always be hers I love her so much always will

I absolutely Love the Energy this gives off....and.. if i'm honest there's Nostalgia here also.

I remember hearing this song as a kid Summer of 1988 year of release, is still good which is cool. Classics are just that.

Luke combs remix sucks, should have kept it to the original. In the song she clearly days she's a check out girl, this is obvious a story lived.

Luke Combs current cover of "Fast Car" is decent, but Tracy Chapman's is still miles ahead! (She had the faster car, apparently :) )

You know there are songs then there are songs like this I remember when Tracy came out with this song i believe it was in 1988 and you just know it's going to be a hit because you could just tell it was from her heart. I still enjoy it until this day hard to believe it was 35 years ago.

Am I the only one who feels a tinge of unearned self-righteousness because I grew up listening to the original version of Fast Car? 🤣
