I bought a labby for my grandma which was the plan from the start as she didn't want a pet, after my grandad died she lived alone juat knitting and growing old and lonely.

I would say grandma how about a hamster, I DONT WANT A HAMSTER, what about a rabbit, I DONT WANT A RABBIT, What about a Goldfish, I DONT WANT A FECKING GOLD FISH.

So I knew I was coming close to splitting with my then partner and set out to buy a pup, he was chosen purely for the reason he was the fattest and he passed on my shoes when I went to view the litter.

I remember the 14 weeks mark bringing him home and ringing my mother saying my dog is broken, he kept banging his head up and down couldn't maintain a dedicated stare or glance. I remember my mother saying return him your money etc, but end of the day if I couldn't love him what was the point in owning an animal granted, he was to be my grandma's baby.

So I kept him, and for the life of me I couldn't toilet train him, I would then on weekends bring him to my grandmother's and say " would you baby sit for 2 days please" one look at him and she was 30 years younger "OF COURSE I WILL" she relied.

Cut a long story short, these Animals are man's best friend for a reason, he reshaped my grabdmothers life, him with his illnesses through bad breeding ( which may I say I have owned many dogs and his forfeits in life actually are his most charming characteristics) and my grandmother with her sadness loniless soon relquinshed of a common trait within the elderly population.

She went on to dying her hair because she got out talked with other dog walkers. I've never seen 75 year old being dragged around by a crazy puppy full of love and excitement whilst wittering the words, he's just excited he's honestly a really good dog.

He made her young again and she made him feel loved and needed.

There is a purpose and reason and a bond to be had with anyone and everything.

An old depressed lady and a disabled dog that could possibly play the banjo if given the chance ended up having the greatest of bonds.
