wait so in this game you gotta be running on the street then suddenly you stuck in a random encounter that takes like 4 turns to finish instead of leading pursuing enemies over to a motorcycle before the fight starts and ending it in under a second?

The extra latency from using a PS5 probably really screws with those attacks that have timing-sensitive inputs.

I downloaded this game thinking it was like an arcade fighting game sort of like sleeping dogs or something but the combat is actually horrendous

Just started playing this and I thinks its awesome. I miss playing turn-based JRPGs, but its hard to relate when the setting is in high school (a la Persona) as a dude in his mid-40s. Its nice to play a JRPG in a more modern and realistic setting (aside Ichiban's imagination during the battle). I love this game!

Hot take? The yakuza combat was always boring asf to me, it felt stale and like nothing compared to the other combat games I play so this seems like a step up for me

I stopped at 6 knowing this is turn based. However, I've preordered like a dragon ishin, and its the same combat with the prev titles, also like a dragon gaiden. I will wait for those 2, like a dragon 8 will stick with turn based so its an automatic skip.

However, i respect ppl who love the revamped combat style, it all boils down to our particular preferences

I cant enjoy this game as much as the others. Yakuza like a dragon is too linear and lacks a lot of fun. The activities are boring as fuck, the story isn't even about the yakuza(not really.) It just feels like they wanted something more arcadey rather than actual gameplay and good story. What a fucking joke this game is.

after getting my hands on this game, I can say that the battle system is A LOT more engaging than it actually looks. yeah, there’s button pressing for various attacks (like timing it or mashing), but the “perfect guard” system also plays a big part in that (pressing “guard” at the right time so you take less damage, even if you didn’t select the “guard” option on your turn).
then again, I’m someone who was already fine w/turn-based RPG combat, and if you know you’re not an RPG fan, that’s fine. but for those who are just unsure in general, it’s worth trying out if you can!

Like a dragon is the only turn based game that I liked
