The Weirdest PS3 Sony Ever Released

The PS3 super slim top and bottom bars are shiny and reflective exactly like the original fat PS3. I really don't like that at all. I also don't like the mechanical sliding for the disc drive. I hate the ridged style it has also. It's just so ugly to me. I love the matte black finish to the PS3 slim. Also model from the beginning to 2900 have the time capsule which can damage the system. I have a 3001 PS3 slim and all models of PS3 slim to PS3 super slim with 3000 and after do not have a time capsule in them so they will continue to run forever. There is PS3 slim models wih 2000 numbers however and they all contain the time capsule which again causes a problem. But I have the 3001 model so I don't have to worry about the console ending itself at all!

Wait am I missing something? I thought most ps3 disk games did not require any installation at all and the storage you needed was just for the save files (?)

The PS3 most certainly could NOT play your PS2 games at all. So many people sold their PS2s to buy PS3s and then found they couldn't play their hundred PS2 games.

Ive had my Super Slim since 2012 and ive had almost no issues with it and ive been actively using it since then. Theres been a few times where ive had to leave it on overnight to download a ton of games for a few days due to me upgrading my hdd a few years ago and again recently when i accidently deleted everything off it lol and after all of that its still running strong and its still really quiet! Compared to the Slim I had in 09 that I only had for a few months before it just died on me.

The door problem isn’t really one, when the door closes it pushes on a switch and it then tells the console that it’s closed the mechanism is a bit useless.

Here I am in 2023 just picked one up off eBay. The listing was for a 250gb model which it didn’t come with a hard drive so I’m 3d printing the bracket and I’m gonna try a hdd. I noticed it was pretty loud so I’m going to try and take this thing apart and try and clean it. Thanks for the tips

there's actually a gen for this. As the first gen somewhat has disc reading problems. Mine is a 3rd you can see it as 43xx at the back sticker. Works like a tank had to change the storage as you know HDD ideal use is only 5 years beyond that it starts getting slow. Using an SSD that saves me some seconds in loading times and makes the menu snappy that makes it worth it.

I've been looking to finally get a PS3 and by all accounts the Super Slim is the most reliable one. But the design is just so... lacking. I'm just wondering if there's replacement shells or skins of different colors for it? Could I be able to change it? It's only thing that's stopping me from getting one. Kinda superfluous, I know. But coming from the PSOne, Fat PS2 and PS4 Slim, which are super iconic and very slick designs. The PS3 Super Slim design leaves a lot to be desired.

I got two of these this year for UBER cheap mayne $200 for both with games and controllers . Im refurbishing one and rhe other operates like brand new

I have a 120gb slim which is going in my living room for the kids
Now i just picked up a blue super slim with the matching controller for 120 which isn’t bad at all

I actually always loved the sliding door. And the form factor of this playstation. Wish it were moddable

I’m not a fan of the top loader but it’s what I ended up with. My original 4 usb fat ps3 got the yellow light of death and never got it repaired

I sold my backwards compatibility one for this one due to my ps2 lens not reading games anymore tbh this model works greats and boots games right up lol I still have my ps2 as well which is why I got rid of the old fat model

It’s actually pretty durable. I’ve seen tests where they dropped heavy stuff on top and no damage to the sliding top or blu ray drive. Not a fan of the top loader, but it worked well.

I love that this is the model of PS3 I happen to own. I bought it 2 years after the release of the PS4 used from GameStop because I was finally in a place to start rebuilding my collection after having to leave everything, but my handhelds behind. Bought a 3 cause I'd managed to save a couple of my PS3 games without the console and had nothing for a 4. When I unboxed the thing it turns out I'd missed info on the SuperSlim in PS4 hype and it took me several moments to realize what I was looking at. Very hard to keep clean (dust gets into those ridges and i have to take a damp cloth to get them out which i don'tlike doing cause water/electrics), but I got lucky. The lid worked when I got it and I'm obsessive about being careful with my consoles so it's still working without a hitch. Have to say given it was the one that started the rebuilding of my collection the PS3 SuperSlim has a special place in my heart.

i got nothing to tell wrong. that dj option is fun to run ps1 🫢. Still quiet and efiicient.

This PS3 is ugly, they could've done a similar design to the Ps2 slim models and it would be cooler, but this shit is just ugly as fuck, looks like something from the 80's

I enjoyed that particular model, I bought one for my wife. She liked it, it was a red God of War edition if I remember correctly.

I know this is an older video and my comment is probably on here somewhere. But hardly ANYONE when making a video about the "super slim" ever mentions it can easily mess up the system by not using the release button for the sliding door.
It always killed me when a friend would open it by sliding the top. I told them it would mess it up but they didn't believe me. But of course over time, I was right and ended up having to fix about 20 different ones for a few different friends over the years. 🤣

The white version looks better the black version makes it look cheap

Mines about twelve years old now and tums like a dream. I pimped it with a 1TB SSD/HDD and that has about 150 digital games and I have about the same physically for ps3 so it gets a LOT of playtime.

I own this model PS3 Super Slim but in white. Mines looks like new after all these years. That includes the box and stuff that comes with it as well.

I love this design, i hate how they cant run cobra CFW. Also, there is a eject button to open the tray without sliding it with your hands. it's on the opposite side of the power button. Your only meant to close it manually, not open it :)

I have a super slim and I just bought a slim today. Only reason is because the CMOS battery in my super slim died and I don’t feel comfortable opening up the entire console just to get to it 😅

I purchased three broken ps3 super slims from a local game store for $5.00 each about six years ago... They were totally disgusting. Repaired two of them (both needed reflowing) they still work to this day. Definitely the more durable of the ps3 models.

Honestly imagine they bring a pro ps5 out and it plays ps1 2 and 3 games! Doubt it will happen but if they made it play ps1 and 2 games using a proper ps2/1 stuff just like the 60gb ps3 then we would only ever need a pro ps5 and a ps3 super slim! Would be the way to go imo
