ОтветитьMatt where are you? like no new videos since the last 6 years
ОтветитьI love Matt's intelligence, his attention to detail, his methodical attitude, and a whole host of other traits he has. But my biggest reason for respecting this dude is his sunny disposition. Having a happy, calm, and understanding attitude is great for living, survival situation or not. I could starve to death with this guy while we're both cracking jokes about it (not that he'd fail to find something to eat)
ОтветитьI would looooove to see this practical use... Hotpants
ОтветитьGreat weapon.
ОтветитьHello Sir, I'm so pleased to have found you! I was reading about Roman archaeology and I discovered the word 'atlatl' so I googled its'meaning and pronunciation, so that lead me to you! I'm a 48 year old Irish lady but in my dreams, I want to be like Crocodile Dundee and a survivalist!!! I'd love to learn how to survive in the wild by cooking, making shelters etc it all fascinates me.
ОтветитьMatt says it's his favorite hunting weapon, then at the end, he proves it with his target demonstration.
ОтветитьThe problem w/a Atlatl is there's too much body motion, animals are very skiddiest.. A bow is much better at guaranteeing a meal..
Ответитьnice video... what the length and wight of the dart copared to length of the atlatl ? Thanks
ОтветитьI’m reading The Shelters of Stone by Jean Auel and her ancient man character is demonstrating his spear thrower and I just couldn’t picture how it works or what it might look like. The point is flint in the book. Thank you so much for doing this great short clear video. Back to my book 😀📖
ОтветитьGreat video! Only two things: 1) your pronunciation of atlatl: you put way too much emphasis on the second syllable and the “l” at the end of the word. It’s pronounced “AHT-laht-l”. 2) There is no history of the Native Mexicans from whom we get the word altatl from and you say “our prehistory”. :-/ But otherwise good stuff!
ОтветитьW borsuka by trafił... 🤔
ОтветитьMy atlatl has a single hole that works for my throwing style
ОтветитьIt's amazing that our ancestors came up with these things.
ОтветитьHaving found an actual atlatl weight called a bird stone. And studied Indian artifacts. Might I suggest having your weights slide up your atlatl shaft. It will add momentum and power. Look at bottle and winged banner stones.
ОтветитьI only know of the name Atlatl because in grade school my history class was learning about the Natives of Texas, and we all said "atlatl" together. For some reason that never left my memory.
Ответитьknew exäctlie whät i was thinking. watch out its that stoopid old (me younGer-re xD huntin think... yeah but with atlantic seattle äch you getzi ghyste xD
thought about it... but hövv would mr google???? nö ??? am i missing 411??
well $Hööterink ät zäh nnöön ^ ^
Thanks for an awesome demo. I’d never even heard of an Atlatl until I saw it in the movie “The Silencing” this week. I’m defo going to make one, an amazing tool. I’m now thinking that the peeps who make Dog ball throwers, borrowed this idea.
ОтветитьThank you. I learned something. But just once I'd like to see someone do distance trials.
ОтветитьJust good stuff.
Ответить30.000 years ago an atlatl it was like if you added the scope to a sniper
ОтветитьDarts - Australian style!
ОтветитьPerfeito
ОтветитьYeah but we ain't natural omnivores
ОтветитьI have what may be a stupid question. Can a atlatl spear in theory be fired from an exceptionally large bow? I know nobody could probably fire the bow normally but, watching the ancient scorpion ballista fire made me wonder.
ОтветитьI'm here to peep your banner stones. 😳 Wait, that doesn't sound right....
ОтветитьI bet if you were on the moon you could get something in the orbit with this
Edit: Just did the math not even close. Lunar escape velocity is 3356 miles an hour and using an atlal you would be lucky to get a dart past 100. :(
thanks
ОтветитьMan, that's so cool. I've been an archer since scouts in the 5th grade...& have evolved from the long bow to the recurve & all the compounds to evolve over time, & more recently back to the recurve.
Having recently read "La Guerre De Feu" (Quest For Fire), I was struck by the importance of this advancement in technology. It's huge, it could make the difference. It's not a caveman tool, it's a modern technological leapfrog.
It looks like you make your spear throwers. Was it you who adapted, or invented, the two finger prong approach.?
Man, it's so cool, I might have to get into it, alongside my archery! Salut.
I work at a museum in Nevada, and in a couple of weeks we will be demonstrating this technology and letting kids throw darts at a standup target. Thank you, Matt for giving a very concise and interesting description of this ancient hunting tool.
Ответитьoldest living and surviving race on the planet? Australian Aboriginals.
In central Australia this was and is called a Woomera, and Spear. So when did americans discover these things?
We've had them for hundreds of thousands of years.

Matt I've loved watching your stuff since the minute you hit the screen. Thanks for taking me on adventures when I can't get out there myself. Many more trail miles to you bud!
ОтветитьIsn't it only legal to hunt with an atlatl in 3 states?
ОтветитьI have been convinced for along time that Matt is the happiest man on earth.
Ответитьare your darts 6 or 7 feet long? Awesome Atlatl and darts.
Ответитьmatt, where can I get darts like the ones you are using in this video?
ОтветитьIt was used by hunter gathers in America; Europe And Australia.
ОтветитьGreetings to you from Algeria, and you are the best primitive person
Ответить10-15 метров до мишени))) Охотник х@ев!:))) И то промазал почти.
ОтветитьNever heard of an atlatl until I saw the movie. Shot guns threw knives shoot arrows with a recurve and compound bow. This si something new.
ОтветитьWhat happened to this channel?
Ответить20 whole paces. Gee, Wally!
