Gorgeous fur baby! Maybe get him a harness and not only will it be easier to control him but easier on his neck. Well done, Johnny! ❤️

You sound like your allergic to dogs.
Maybe asthmatic?

Animal dander is a protein that is air born- it’s not the hair - it’s a protein found in the dogs saliva and urine which is what people are allergic to.

VERY IMPORTANT! PLEASE RESPOND!
Hey, Johnny. I am an Ukrainian-American in the states (around Boston). I was born in Kiev and left when I was 14 turning 15. I admire what you have done with the dog, so please disregard the nay-sayers. But I have a few questions personally for you:
1) what happens if you travel out of my country, Ukraine, for Thailand or elsewhere again? Would you bring Lord with you or how does it work???
2) My father lives in Kiev and I am entitled to my Obolon apartment, but he has been playing funny with me and has had another little child. I lost all contact with him even before the war. Would you be able to check out if he is even alive? I'll give you the name and the address in private message.

Thank you.
Oksana

Johnny, get a harness instead of that collar to walk the dog, way more comfortable for him since he won't be choking all the time and will make it easier for him to follow you on a leash.

Gosh.. the kennels in the new place are really only cages... I hope they get the money in to build suitable shelters.. the dogs cannot live in tiny cages, they'll go crazy..
It must be heartbreaking for the workers there to have no proper size enclosures for them in this new place.. ... They work so hard for them. .

The dog must have lived in a house before the way he went straight to the door to go for the walk.. it will take him a few weeks to adjust to the quiet of it just being him and Johnny and not living in the noise and among lots of dogs and people and the watching all the interaction that went on at the shelter among dogs and people.

A harness to attach the lead to would instead of to the collar would help.. but I see many others have suggested that too..

Be careful with that window, dogs will jump from them if they want to leave in a hurry. I had a husky that tried to jump from a 2nd story window because he was hot, I came home and he had broken the glass and almost jumped. Anyway, not saying it will happen, but maybe you can put up a baby gate or buy some sort of tall screen that you can lay next to it. Dogs are pretty simple to take care of. They have to go outside in the morning, mid-day and before you go to bed. Usually after they eat they will want to go out. You don't have to feed them 3 meals a day, one is enough as long as it's high quality food, then maybe a couple treats in the evening or when you eat dinner. Getting them on a routine is the biggest thing, once you do that, they become happier. One last thing, never tie a dog to anything from which they can jump from, they can hang themself. I had to experience that the hard way, I had to run into the house for a quick second, tied my dog to a picnic table, came out and found it dead. Freak accident, but it can happen. This can be remedied by using a harness, not a collar.

So, do you have someone who can take care of Lord when you travel, or is it a more of a short time arrangement. When i got a dog i lost 20 kg of weight due to all the running after and with the puppy.. A nice sideeffect and i wasn't on a diet or anything..

Thanks for being there for these animals, they really need any kind of caring they can get! Is a very big tradegy how the animals and ecosystems in one of the biggest countries in the world got so hurt, by malfunctioning humans. I remember the Kherson flooding and also read that they are moving dolphines from Azov sea😢

Johnny FD is NOT a dog lover!

Real man and animal lover don't rescue a dog and put him in a balcony "create training"! Bullshit! I have never ever saw something like that. How about air strikes, bombings or sirens??? "No, you won't go anywhere" just in balcony without even seeing nothing outside...

A good friend of mine from Ukraine, who lives in Kyiv and also has a dog, saw you on the street with your dog.
She also said, that you have put this dog on the balcony, outside, where the sound of sirens and bombs can also be heard from time to time!
When I watched the video,
I was amazed at this thoughtlessness you do to a dog, who just needs warmth under the blanket 24/7 and many many hugs, because he has been away from his owner for so long!
You're making me puke.🤮🥺
The next time you lock Lord on the balcony, make it so that you go out on the balcony and Mr. Lord goes on the sofa for the warmth of the house. 🤔🐕‍🦺

Johnny, maybe you haven't trained dogs. I have some tips, and appreciate your intentions to help relieve pressure on the shelter especially while they at up the new location, and to use your strength to get that dog the wal[k]s it clearly needs for its mental health.

I have a few recommendations after 15 years with dogs.

First, you are correct to start with the dog INITIALLY in a limited space to help it understand it doesn't get to think of the entire apartment as it's own territory, showing you as the leader. Work towards allowing him to have a little more areas over the coming weeks, and be ready to use a stern tone ні for bad behavior and reward good behavior with a good tone добре and a small treat. Dogs want to please.

Definitely walk it multiple times a day, and keep a strict feeding schedule. Teach him to wait to go to the food until you set it down and step back. It will take time. Keep your calm.

If you skateboard, consider taking him for a walk with it, keeping a pace with him that allows him to run. When you return, with his mind more relaxed, work up to teaching him to be calm and seated before going in, as then coming back represents feeling more calm.

As he adjusts, teach him calm when people visit by acting calmly to the door yourself, and let people understand that they should ignore him (this is especially crucial after he gets to be in more of the apartment and they have access) unless he refrains from jumping at them or other overly excited behavior. Honestly a dog merely placing their front paws up on you is canine language for a friendly hello. That's not the same as jumping up at them. You petting a dog is like when they lick one another to show friendliness and affection.

Unlike when dealing with children, understanding what a dog is communicating and through that then helping them understand you, means student strategy. To a dog, affection is calm, food, playing, exercise, and being with the human in a restful way.

Working to that point takes time and deliberate effort. You are the boss, but the dog is your teacher.

Just remember an apartment is simply a larger kennel.

I have a few nutritional tips that are very simple and inexpensive that can also help you keep the dog very healthy if you want them.

Dogs can be cute and etc... I remember taking on a dog for 14 days. He was a retired police dog, German Shepard. Massive dominance behaviour on his part. I grew up with similar dogs, but he was hard to handle. It went well after the first day and half. You just have to feel each other out. And establish boundaries and rules, while giving affection etc.

First he needs a harness, the pulling on the neck isn't good. All dogs need is love, food and safety as well as good brushes and tickles with lots of walks. You will do amazing. When he's settled and trusting you then you will see the difference. Also get safety catches on the window as he will jump out if he gets scared. It's like child locks. I have them on mine so they only open a little and my cat can't escape. I got them from amazon. Please don't keep him locked on the balcony. He has gone from one cage to the next doing that. You need to allow him from roam of your home.

Thank you for fostering this nice boy. He is an attractive, sweet dog. I rescued/fostered Siberians for 20 yrs (200 dogs). He's terrified right now. He doesn't know what happened to his life. It will take him a while to figure things out. I would not leave him on the balcony unattended. Something might scare him enough for him to jump out the window to escape. Routine walks, feeding times, etc, will give him confidence. Dogs thrive on routine. Happy Dog Walking!!! You're awesome!

Johnny do not keep the Dog on that small porch let him roam the apartment. That is to small and hot for him let him get some AC.
Buy him a bigger food and water bowls because he is a big dog. Feed him half a bowl in the morning and half a bowl at night and make sure he has plenty of water.
