The top doesnt light up at night because it is the hotel section. People dont leave their lights on while they are sleeping.

The round, and lack of corners reminds me of a progressive idea. "Honey, let's build a Geodesic Home!" Any way the home was built and a complaint was made that it is difficult to furnish the place since we think in squares, rather than rounds. I moved away from that area but wonder if it's still there since it was difficult to sell.

It’s hard to count the revenue form tourism and the sense of pride to local people. It is a failure economically but is not totally a failure

I worked in the JinMao Tower next to this and it was a similar, but not quite the same, story there. In fact, in all the cities I visited in China over the course of 18 years, I saw hundreds of unoccupied buildings and shopping malls filled with empty units. I had a feeling the Chinese economy was failing from 2014 when all the retail units and restaurants that once lined the streets in shopping areas began to vanish. It was sad to see and heartbreaking when shopping malls were demolished.

I am always amazed by how westerner think they are experts of anything Chinese. right? you can just admit China does a lot things better than you and your pethatic governments. I live in europe and I see it everyday, but keep on the criticism, we enjoy how jealous you are.

the buildings are tall, but the land area is actually still quite vast. They could get the same amount of floor space by building something that's just 30 stories if they wanted, 50 if you wanted some more design and not too boring. All that "save energy" and money from smart designs is like buying a Rolls Royce electric car and telling your friends that you're saving money from not needing to buy petrol.

Buildings like this remind me of the car designs in the 1950's. More chrome, fins, bigger, but not really practical.
