You should have seen the old Surf & Stillwell subway station in Coney Island back in the mid & late 70s. It was quite treacherous! It looked like a muggers' & murderer's haven! I think it was used in a few gang movies?

I found a city in UK that eligible to compare with NY - Glasgow (in Scotland) operated by Scotrail.
The worst is plat 17 Glasgow Central, looks very nice on the surface level (big platforms for big trains to London etc), but once escalator down the long path for Platform 17 .. ew! smells of mold, pee... if coming from the train, can smell as it pulls in. I had to spray perfume on my face mask, hold my breath and runnnnnnn. Also, fare dodging is normal in Glasgow because most ticket gates are open, is £1 per ride a lot? and they made an underground 'tube network' ' to looks like London, lmao. gross and dirty and teens vaping inside ...

I used to live in nyc and I specifically remember the eerie/unsafe feeling I always felt at Chambers Street station. I feel like it's been severely neglected

This looks like something from a horror movie on Tubi, I swear! The storage behind Chambers station is probably were people are kept and hidden then used in torture machines. I swear, I step one foot in the NYC subway. Its a horror film and its gross 🤢

You chose the jz area of the chambers station because the 456 line is much better. You wanna know why it's like that? The amount of low income workers coming in from Brooklyn is more than high income workers. But the 456 trains are along the east side and get more wealthy people riding it. Idk focusing in anesthetics is incredibly surface level to me. Times Square is very pretty AND it happens to have the most twists and turns to walk through

There is a stench of puke in the tunnel at 51st and Lex if you transfer from the E / F to the 6 or vice versa. This smell in this very particular area goes back decades and the wall continues to leak no matter how many times they've tried to patch it up. I have had to hold my breath thousands of times to get through there. And as for the litter, NYC has turned into a total free-for-all. The authorities let people get away with all sorts of misdemeanor crimes scot free and they treat felonies like misdemeanors, so citing someone for littering will never happen. People treat the track like their personal dumping ground for their food waste, and then when rats show up they say they have a RAT problem, when in reality, the real issue is that NYC has a filthy HUMAN problem.

I remember being shocked at the state of the New York underground. We have messy stations on the London Tube, but even the bad stations are not even in the same league as these NY stations for their awfulness . Such a shame.

To state the obvious, New Yorkers left that garbage, and filth and graffiti. Dirty careless people make dirty careless places. Nobody takes any pride or ownership of public places like subways in NYC . The London Underground is MUCH nicer and then hear the Russian underground is nicer still. NYC and Paris are latrines . This is sad because I worked in NY and really like the city but the conditions of many aspects of it are shameful

Just remember that the NYC subway is a lot different to other subways throughout the world. It is operational 24 hours a day. It doesn't close. Maintenance is extremely didficult because of this. It's also enormous, way bigger than anywhere else. Now add to this the kind of people that use it and yes, live in it.

Wanted to provide my two cents here on Bowery, it's even better in its awfulness by being just a few blocks from a shelter house where most of the druggies and homeless are based around. So yeah, gotta love how our state government has done a bang up job investing poorly into infrastructure (a bit salty due in part that it's also in one of the most hard hit train lines from the migrant crisis in regards to overcrowded conditions, the J along with the 7).

Good lord, even the worst looking Boston subway stations are better than this. I honestly can't remember ever being in a subway station as bad as some of these.

I am optimistic about the New York City subway system. It has an extensive network of subway lines. However, it needs modernization and cleanliness.

Guys even though they are dirty now but they were built when world was on Bullock cart and had nothing developed.... After more than 100 year any local transport station become old and worst... But they have made this when rest od the world had nothing... So every county had their problems but dont forget America contributions in science and innovations.... I m Indian.
